SOS Button Wiring

Has anyone drawn power from this wire to charge an accessory? Seems easier going there than routing a cable through the trunk to draw from battery.

I bought the BMW dual USB adapter for the lighter and it works fine for the phones.

I haven't but it sounds like a good idea. I'd check the fuse capacity and wire diameter, as well as anything else that utilizes that fuse. What colors are the wires?

Should easily be able to tap into the fuse panel behind the glove box. Can choose from any number of circuits to tap into there. I added a couple sets of LEDs for interior and exterior and tapped into the cigarette circuit as well as the stereo.

Already did that for radar & Bluetooth audio, but wanted to hardwire my GoPro (for track days), which is mounted in between the seats so trying to find a location closer in proximity than glove box.

I think somebody looked into this years ago and it was found that there's no power near the SOS button save for the illumination.

A few years ago I bought a 2-port marine USB outlet, hardwired it to a switched power source and mounted it in the panel below the HVAC controls. I also have a ProClip phone mount to hold my smartphone and I plug my smartphone into one of the USB ports with a short 8" cable. There's another port available for a passenger.

I posted pictures of this in either this forum or the DIY forum when I did this.

Be aware that the 12V cigarette lighter port is an always-on port, at least it is in my Z4 M Roadster.

I learned this the hard way because I was using a dual USB adapter that I left plugged into the lighter port. One day I went to unplug it and found out it was warm. When I pulled it out it fell apart in my hand (it was a Scosche I think, not a cheapie). This is why I went for the switched-on USB port that I mentioned in my post above this one. Also why I now only use USB adapters that have an LED "power" light on them.
