Z4 hideous olive top question...

Howdy. So potentially picking up an 03 Z4 3.0 today. Only "negative" I can tell is what I consider to be the visually offensive oddly colored pewter / olive top on this dark metallic grey BMW.

Have done a bunch of research on dying it black and I have no issue doing that, UNLESS there is some oddball collectible aspect to this otherwise ugly top that I am unaware of. Dont want to be the guy that dyed a Rembrandt- though in this case seems doubtful so checking ahead of time. Purists? Input?

Dont see any way to upload a pic but that is sort of irrelevant- is there some bizarre special nature re a non black top or I will just dye it black.

That is a link to exterior colors, not soft top colors.

I think one other guy did the top dye thing a year or two ago but I don't think he has been on here lately to give you an update on the durability of this or how much work is involved. I believe the fabric is specially treated from the factory for water resistance so some due care in applying chemicals and dyes is warranted.

I was hoping for a picture just to see if I agree that the car look as bad as you see it. After all, if you can avoid the trouble, expense, risk of a screw up.... And, the top is down on nice days so who cares etc. You can see where I am going with this.

Did you say what color the car body is? Belay that - dark metallic grey. A pic would be awesome.

My top was gray - and faded - so I dyed it black. I have another bottle of Protex to dye it again but haven't yet. The first coat of dye darkened it but it is not dark black like I would like it to be.

Afaik there are originally only 3 top colours; black, grey and beige. If its something other, then its a project of someone or at least something happened to it.
If you post a pic we may see what it originally was and what happened to it.
