Selling my M4, what car next?
Due to financial reasons, I am unfortunately going to sell my current 2018 M4 Competition Convertible and use part of the money to close my wife's X5 2017's car loan so we are debt free.
I will have around 30K Cash to spare after closing here loan. I wanna use that money to get a car that will hold me off for a year or two before I make my next big purchase so here are some of the cars that I've been looking for that are in my budget and want your opinions on the 1) 2016 Golf R with 50,000kms on the clock I love the looks of the Golf R and how small and nimble it is. I test drove one and while it can take corners at pretty high speeds, when I floored it, it didn't give me that much excitement. I mean it's not bad I can probably live with it but just saying, nothing special. 2) 2015 Dodge Charger R/T V8 - Dodge Certified with 50,000 kms on the clock Now that's around 3K cheaper than the above Golf R and is Dodge Certified so buying it from Dodge Pre-owned directly with 12 months warranty. It has more power than the Golf R but I'm sure it's much heavier and probably not as nimble as the Golf R but I'm assuming it would be more fun accelerating from 0-60 due to its V8? 3) Toyota 86 I can get a brand new one with my budget. I love its looks but what is scaring me from getting it is that I would heavily disappointed with its power as it only has 205 BHP. It looks amazing and the fact that it's new means I don't have to worry about maintenance as it comes with 4 year free service but I'm not sure 4) 2015 Porsche Boxster GTS with 50,000 kms on the clock this is owned by my friend actually, he wants to sell it to get a bigger car. It has a full service history but the warranty is going to expire in May 2018 but is extendable I like it, it has a good factory exhaust since it's the GTS. He's selling it for $43,000 USD but what scares me is the maintenance costs down the road although I think the car looks awesome This is the one I like most though, it's a yellow 2915 Cayman GTS with 46,000KMS on the clock. I love it because of the color, He's asking for 47K for this 2013 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport with 83,000 KMS on the clock for USD $38K I'd love to get your feedback

If you're thinking of getting a grand sport, why not a Z06? I've had several of them and they are monsters. In my opinion, better than any other car on your list

Financial reasons, then VW Golf R.
After 1-2 years, when you are all good, shoot for stars. Buy what you want to buy then

There is a reason you like the Cayman GTS the most, because it is the obvious choice and it's not even close.
The 981 GTS may not have the brutal acceleration of the M4, but it is one of the best pure sports cars Porsche has ever made. Last NA 6 mid engine in the best chassis Porsche has (except for the GT4). And that Racing Yellow example also looks better than the other cars you have pointed out. For used sports cars, buying from a trusted friend is the best idea in my opinion
You'll know the service history, how it was treated, if it has any weird issues, etc So Boxster GTS is the clear choice for me |

Given your current needs, I'd take the Golf-R.

If it’s a VW I’m only interested in the R not the GTI. The R barely cuts it for the power so I can’t even imagine settling g for a GTI with approximately 70 BHP less

On a side note, my M4 buyer looked very serious, he came with his wife and I let them both test drive the car and they loved it. Then he tells me that she just lost her job and I’m thinking, how the hell does he wanna buy my expensive car and she just lost her job. Then he tells me 2 days later that he’s not buying it because of his situation so I got played well to give a long ass test drive, never again.

Since financial-based decision, Golf R. I don't think I'd step into any Porsche if thinking about finances unless you are a Porsche tech and plan to DIY maintenance.

Right, thanks a lot for making this easier guys. I know any maintenance on the Porsche would drill a big hole in my pocket

I agree with others Snappy. Go with the Golf R. Porsche maintenance scares me also.
If I had to "downgrade" it would be to the VW. It's a fun car with some practicality. |

I'd probably use the opportunity to change things up a little, like choosing a car with a naturally aspirated v8 instead of another turbo charged engine. Of the cars you listed the vette would be my choice for v8 power.

Dodge has a pre-approved Challenger SRT8 2016 model that I'm going to check out tomorrow, I miss the immediate power of the naturally aspirated engines. One of the most fun cars I've owned before was a 2005 Holden Monaro GTS which pinned me back to my seat the moment I hit the gas pedal. I miss that feeling I'm also going to check this 2015 Camaro ZL1:

I personally wouldn't go with either of those American options. Either way, best of luck!

Can you tell me more about you wife's car, like why did you sell it, what did you think of the power, handling, and stock exhaust? I did hear some burbles while I was test driving it. I am probably not going to get the Golf R as much as I like it because the ones here in Dubai are all driven above 70,000 KMS but that S3 I found has only done 20,000 KMS and is selling for just a few grand over a used Golf R

We had the APR Stage 2, which includes tune, DP, and a full intake. I also added an upgraded turbo inlet and a catch can. If I lived in the UAE, I'd spring for the intercooler as well. APR is definitely not the most cost effective and easiest to remove, but there are other options now, like the JB4. Our power levels were around 400bhp/420tq, which is fun on that little car and AWD. The exhaust doesn't sound bad on the little 4 banger, and the DP and intake really helps open us the sound. It has a valved stock exhaust so it docile when wanted, and more aggressive in dynamic. Nothing to write home about overall, but it is sporty. There's actually a "pops and bangs" tune that APR offers now as a free option on their tunes. Handling wise - steering was great. Some underwater like a traditional Audi, but very sporty. The power and awd make it feel like a luxurious go kart - tons of fun
