How dangerous to leave airbag attached with stripped doors?

I understand that some would rather remove everything from the door for the ultimate weight reduction, but I wondered how hard airbag would hit you upon an impact without any interiors to soften the blast. Will it be advisable to leave the airbag as it is?

I would think the safety modifications in the car are relevant here, e.g. seats, harnesses, cage, etc. Seems like an airbag isn't going to do much if you're in a non-OEM seat, have harnesses, HNR, etc.

I don't understand your question 100%. There is no airbag in the door. The side airbag is in the seat. The head airbag is in the headliner, not in the door.

Oh, duh, I totally forgot about that.

I'm stripping a different car (Z3 roadster.) Just wanted to know whether there would be any potential danger leaving airbag on with bare chassis.

Seems to me that in a gutted race car with aftermarket seats + halo, roll cage, 6-point belts, HNR, etc., the airbags aren't going to do shit anyway. Airbags are SUPPLEMENTAL restraints -- a race car has way more restraint gear than a stupid 3-point belt.

I stripped my e46 and took all the airbags out and the module. I'm running half cage, halo seats and 6 points. If you have a similar set up I'd just delete them all together. If you are running a 4 point or stock three points and stock seats I'd keep them in
