Remus Sport Axle-Back vs Cat-Back

I'm looking at the Remus Sport exhaust, but debating the cat-back versus axle-back. My 2016 M4 is completely stock, so I'm really only looking for sound. I could do the axle-back myself as I don't have a lift, and I could put the extra thousand bucks toward the ridiculously priced carbon tips.

I've heard videos of the two and really can't tell much difference in sound, can anyone tell me how much different they sound?

the axleback alone will not make it louder and just change the tone. you'll also need a valve controller unless you are WOT 99% of time.

I have remus+aa midpipe combo and still dont find it loud enough. It is louder but coulda have a little more. So if you are looking for volume increase, consider what I just said.

if just volume then go with the AA midpipe

Hi,
It depends on what you are looking for.

Axle Back on its own will give you a louder and deeper tone.
It sounds really good but the catback takes it to another level.

If you plan on getting downpipes stick with the axle back or get res-midpipe
if you are keeping stock DP, get the full non-res REMUS exhaust

This is spot on

I did the AA midpipe first and it made the car have a deeper tone with no rasp and then it wasn't enough SO I added the Remus axleback and it was great at SOME RPMs since the valves are annoying so I just got a valve controller today and it sounds more open

I'd love to run catless downpipes but in NC we have emissions testing

Happy with the sound though, it's way way louder than we think, I heard my car drive off and I was like holy shit! They have a lot of deadening being a luxury car

Cat-back with no downpipes sounds aggressive and I like it. If you're going with downpipes in the future get the Resonated version of the midpipe.

Just for another point of reference, I have the Remus resonated mid + rear and I think it is way loud. With the valves open and windows down, this thing bangs loudly on throttle lift after you built up boost. I rarely have the valves open when I enter my neighborhood.

I love the sound, but I can't imagine how loud it would be with catless DPs.

I can’t imagine going axle back only. If you are running exhaust thru the muffler, I.e. efficient mode, my full cat back Remus is super quiet. Of course, when valves are open, the car is loud. But, it is disappointingly quiet in efficient. It does not seem much louder or deeper than stock - and this is with both the resonators and secondary cats removed! If I had Remus axle back only, i imagine it would sound like a Toyota Camry.

Key to this exhaust (or any others for that matter) is running an exhaust valve controller so you can open and close the valves at will or set it to stock operation. With valves closed, it’s very quiet. Startup is still annoyingly loud even with valves closed but you can always flash the car for quiet cold start. Or, if you have the comp pack, quiet cold start is much quieter than non-comp cars and the Remus start up is not bad at all on comp pack cars in efficient mode.

I have noticed that most of my customers who buy axle back end up either getting a midpipe or downpipe in the future

If your going to do it definitely go with the full cat Back system. Here is a sound clip of my Remus non resonated exhaust (cat back) with stock downpipes and GTS throttle overrun aka exhaust burbles.

If you're going to get catless dp's, get AA midpipe with Remus axle back, sounds like a monster with valves open and very stock-like with it closed. If you're going with stock dp's, go Remus catback with no resonators, but it'll be a bit raspy buy loud. If you're wanting no rasp, then go with AA midpipe with Remus axle back.
