Easy. You remove your old shifter by loosening up the boot. Push in on the corners and it pops loose. Put it in second gear and pull towards you. The old one pops off with a little effort.

To reinstall just reverse the process. There are videos on the forum and YouTube that show the process better than I explain it.

Mine took A LOT of effort. What worked eventually was putting stick in 2nd then pulling with two hands as if you were unsheathing a sword not pulling up like doing curls. 1st time is the hardest. All the videos show a shifter that's been removed already in the past.

don't accidentally, you know,pull so hard that you hit yourself in the face removing it and give yourself a black eye, leading your mom to think someone kicked your ass in a fight. I may, or may not, speak from experience on this.

That would be fun!! I put my new one on my M2. It was way harder than the one on my F30 was.

But you could always say, "You should see the other guy!!".

lol, I could, but my mom would know it was either a lie, or I beat up a little kid.

This was back in 2001 with my E46 328Ci shifter...BMW basically welded it on.
