Hey guys,

So I am going through PS2's like crazy. @$300 a tire it's getting mega annoying. If it were only for track use I'd be fine but as a daily driver this is killing me. What is a good non runflat tire that doesn't ride like shit and might be a little cheaper and last longer?

For DD use!!!!

In a summer tire, the sumitomo htrz3 is excellent, as is the firehawk indy 500. Softer sidewall on the firehawk, and less likely to chunk on track. I don't get quite 10k out of htrz3, firehawks last a tiny bit longer.

If you're not committed to summer tires, you could spend more on a longer-lasting all-season like the continental DWS or michelin pilot a/s3 or whatever the current iteration are. DWS 20k is easy, michelins I'm still driving I'd guess 20k+ with my driving habits.

Why are you still buying PS2s when PSS are cheaper. Even the new 4S is cheaper if you dont find PSS on clearance.

Perhaps you should share more about your driving habits if you want a meaningful recommendation.

Lol, I love your first sentence based off my post Thanks for the info though. I have not found pilot super sports to be cheaper. I'm gonna look at my source again. Thanx

I'm wanting the tire just for daily driving. Like I said originally, if it were for track only I'd deal with it. I mean I don't think you really can bitch about life span or wear on a tire for track use. I just can't believe I'm only squeezing out 10,000-15,000 miles out of these things daily driving.

Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires are suppose to be similar to PSS and cheaper.
Or just get some Hankook V12evo2 with the $100 rebate when you buy 4.

You can still buy PS2s???

PS2s are 220 treadwear and PSS + PS4S are 300. I don't know what you paid for the PS2s, but the PSS or PS4S might be cheaper long term.

I have the new Conti DW and think they are a decent daily driver tire. Had PSS before. Conti are cheaper. Don't think PSS is worth the premium. Read mixed reviews of cheaper options like Hankook V12 or Sumi HTR3. Rears are not going to last 30k miles. Probably about half that. And I am not sure I would want rock hard tires with a 400 or 500 or 600 treadwear on this car.

Thanx for the recommendations guys! I love Michelin grip but tread wear is too fast for DD.

Prices always change, saving ~$15 on a tire that is worse in every way including tire wear then complaining about it doesn't seem like the smartest thing to do.

Michelin's PSS/4S are the best all around tires if you need good grip and decent life. If you want to sacrifice some performance for more longer lasting options there are a few, all the way down to some all seasons.
at
You say they are not track only, but do you plan to track at all on them at all?

I have two sets of 359's. Currently one set is all PSS and one set is PS2. I'm looking to change the PS2 set to a longer lasting type. I was asking what everyone's opinions are for a cheaper set. It's easy to find something cheaper in general but the ride might be a complete shitdog. Hence my inquiry.

In the summer category, the firehawks ride better than the sumi Z3 and so far they're not chunking at all- the Z3s will chunk at a heavy autox, hpde or if you drift anything beyond casual street-sliding.

Not sure about the weather in CA where you are, but all-seasons with a higher treadwear will last MUCH longer and depending on how you drive, you might not notice the lack in grip. New all seasons are seriously good, DWS, AS3, and even the BFG comp whatever a/s put up numbers better than many summer tires. If you're not tracking, it's unlikely you'll overheat them but you'll get much longer life.

It's a shame to waste a really good expensive tire sitting in traffic, or commuting on the freeway surrounded by slow people and police. When I had re71s I felt criminal driving them daily with what they cost.

The Kuhmo PS91 is another option and I think there's a $70 rebate when you buy 4.
I have these and the Continentals and both are fine for street driving.
Someone in the track section used the PS91 on the track and liked them a lot and they seemed to wear well too.

I have these on my m3 now, and they are decent street tires down to around 30 degrees. They hold up well on-track and don't overheat as easily as Z3s or chunk at all so far. The grip isn't outstanding, and they are wearing faster than I'd like but only 2k and 1 hpde in it's too soon to say how long they're last.

I think there are better choices for the money.

I need to replace my rear 295/30/19s MichPSS, but unfortunately the DWs don't come in that size. Would love to try them.

I got 23.5k miles on the OEM pzero's they were good, I would get them again, but got a good price on Cont Ext DW-sidewall is not as stiff actually pretty soft but very quiet and much better in rain. I also got MPSS which quieter than pzero and stiffer sidewall than Conti but not as sticky as pzero. I guess it has a lot to do with the roads and temperature in my area (warm and dry). I understand the PS2 to be slightly better than pzero (both were OEM if I remember correctly). Hope that helps.

I have always ran MPSS & MPS2. I will keep my MPSS set as is and renew. The PS2 rim set Im looking for a DD with better mileage. Those Pzero's you say made it 25,000 are impressive and very doable. My whole post was kinda a bitch fest that PS2's don't last very long nor do PSS. I'll deal with the PSS doing this because in my experiences it's a very grippy tire and great on track. My PS2's are my DD's and for the price.....overall mileage isn't worth it. I'm looking for a DD tireset that doesn't evaporate on SoCal roads @$650 mounted and balanced for two.
