TPMS question - need quick input
Hey Guys,
I recently swapped the wheels on my 2012 M3 with some OEM GTS wheels off of a 2011 M3 that I got from another forum member and he disclosed that the right front tire dint have the TPMS sensor. I just thought I will remove the one TPMS from one of my old wheels and install it on the missing one. I have been driving the car with the missing TPMS sensor on the one wheel and it obviously threw the TPMS inactive/malfunction light. I am at the tire shop now trying to get the one missing sensor installed but the tire shop is telling me that the system is not reading the other 3 TPMS sensors and I have to swap all 4 in order for it to work. Is this right? Can I not swap just one TPMS sensor? I thought post 2010 TPMS sensors are compatible with other years. Also do I have to get the TPMS sensors registered to the car? They should all be on the same frequency so the tire shop could be correct. You would need to buy the same frequency as the other 3.......hope this helps.......Phil

2010+ (IIRC) TPMS is different than pre 2010, that's probably why the others won't register. BTW, you don't register it, the car just "relearns" by going to the TPMS reset option
