Which wheels/tire sizes do you have? I recommend 10r/12f for 359's, 12r/15F for 220's and the same for the 18's...running stock size tires. Going too aggressive can introduce rubbing.

If you use the search function here, you'll find a wealth of info on spacers.

We generally go with 15mm and 12mm read on both the 220M and the 359 wheels. Both wheels sets are rub free even when lowered. We also have a spacer reference thread going on right here:

It really depends on the tires you run... even in stock size, the tire profile makes a big difference. Also, if you do track your car when lowered, you will rub in back even with a small spacer.

I was rubbing on the back at the track with a 10mm spacer. I had to shave the fender liner and go to a 5mm spacer to make it clear. This is on stock wheels and stock 265/40R18 rear size tires, lowered 0.5 inch from stock.

Exactly. On my 1st M3 under full compression I rubbed with a 12mm spacer in the back on 220's with stock PZero's. Suspension was Dinan, essentially a comp pkg drop, ~.5". I was able to use 12.5mm spacers on my next M3, non-zcp stock suspension, PS2's and didn't rub under full compression.

Results can vary car to car. Tire and alignment are variables too.

The real question is, why didn't you search?
