Buy extended warranty from new
Who buys extended warranty from new?
What is the cost of the extended warr on a new 2018? You can add it later but probably an insection fee charge. |

I was told I could buy it anytime as long as it was within the original warranty period.
I purchased mine for my 2015 at about 72k. Added an extra year and up to 200,000km. Came out to $2900 all in (5% tax in AB), but this was before the $600 price hike. Edit: IIRC the finance guy gave me $600 off. |

Those may have been BMW warranties. Aftermarket warranties are usually cheaper. You can purchase them any time as long as the car is still under the original warranty period.

Here is what i got from my dealer for a Extended warranty on a new 2018 M3:
Not sure about aftermarket but why would you purchase aftermarket? I think OP said he's looking for 2018's. Hope this helps. |

I wouldn't buy extended warranty new until at least a few months before my original warranty expired for a couple of reasons.
First, you need to decide if you'll actually keep the car after the warranty expires. Second, why pay for the warranty now when you can buy it later? Invest that money and become rich. |

I just bought an M4 2015 and but the in service date is 9/14 so apparently my warranty is due to expire on 9/18 next year. I made sure I could extend the warranty as long as I'm within its period but I'm wondering if those extended warranties quoted by BMW means it's another 2 years so 6/200 being 4 + 2 more years etc.
Seems like 1 year extension for 3-4k is a lot of money and I'm planning on keeping this guy for at least another 4 years. |

Extended Warranty (Yes)
I will buy the extended warranty for my F80 M3 DCT 2018 since I just came off a 330i 2006 with broken head bolts (twice) first repair under warranty at 49,000 miles $4500, leaking oil pan, ignition coils, water pump, front struts, and finally a cracked magnesium aluminum head exhaust manifold area cylinder 3 ($7000 repair) at 115,000 miles. If I have to pay $5K now and be done with it why not. btw I sold my 330i for $2K without doing head repair since I did not have any warranty.

I purchased a non-BMW extended warranty at time of delivery (when the car had 10 miles on it). Not sure if I was being lied to or not, but the finance guy at the dealer said that purchasing it later would cost me way more then purchasing when new. I intend to keep the car for quite a while and intended to extend the warranty anyway, so it didn't bother me that the fact that it would cost more later might not have been true. My thinking was that it's highly unlikely that it would be cheaper when the car was older.
Upgraded full mechanical to 8 year / 80k for $5,200. Purchased unlimited wheel and tire for 5y for $2,400.
