All who have light weight batteries, some help.

I'm running NASA this weekend. I still have the oem 60lb battery but may pull the trigger tomorrow on the Braille Lithium 6.6lb battery. Anyone use this? Any issues? Is it safe? Will their be codes and will I lose my tune?
During the cold months I'm planning on obviously keeping it on the trickle or switching back to the own battery.

You will need to code it in. So the ecu knows how to charge it correctly. Shouldn't loose your tune.

If it's just for the weekend you won't need to code it in, I threw a Miata battery in my E82 (around 350 CCA) and it ran fine for two weeks prior to coding it. These small Braille (Deka) batteries might have trouble turning over if it's decently cold out though, especially the 6lbs baby.

i have the voltphreaks vph900. i weighed it, and it is exactly 7lbs as they state. works perfectly. starts the car strong, even after it sits for three weeks.
i had previously tried the antigravity rs-20 (10 lbs. / ~$400) car battery. it did not work well in this car. the battery goes into a sleep mode, and the car acts like it is not attached to a power source as a result. it was registered correctly, there was just intermittent starting with it because of the connectivity problem.

back to the vph900- i love it. cost me $1k because i picked it up with cash, and they threw in SAE terminal adapters (don't forget to ask for these no matter what you choose).

i used two 2"X3" adhesive backed velcro pads and secured the battery to the battery tray using that. i then used a velcro strap and fed it under and between the pinch welds of the oem battery tray and up and over the battery. sometimes, the gods of speed just make things easy on you. it was perfect. below is a link to a similar strap.

the 2"x3" velcro pads were rated at 15 lbs each. the battery is definitely not going anywhere with the pads and strap, and there is no metal to puncture the battery in the event of a collision. might not pass tech, so check your rules and use at your own risk. another secondary benefit of the pads is vibration reduction through the sort of padding that velcro provides.
i am very happy with this setup and can post a few pictures if you would like.

I would love to opt for that battery but weekend is almost upon me, also the Braille 6.6lbs of around $500. The whole coding thing is annoying me.
I might nip it and just stick with the oem for the weekend and order your battery. Decisions :

So your saying I can just throw it in (Braille Lithium Ion) today, run this weekend and swap back to the oem without doing any coding?

Swap in a 22 lb Deka powersport battery for racing. Cost about $75. Don't even bother coding it unless you have coding ability and don't mind the trouble. I would not risk overcharging the $500 or $1000 or whatever battery.

You can't overcharge the voltphreaks. It has a computer that won't allow it.

The $1000 batteries cannot, in theory, be "overcharged" because the internal battery electronics take care of the battery and will pull the plug (internal cutoff from the car) before a serious problem arises.

Ok, pics aren't the greatest because of the huge oem terminal post apparatus, but you get the idea. You can see how there is room to feed a Velcro strap under the oem tray.

Nice! Thanks for the pic man. I'm going to go with the Braille 12lb battery for now. Pick it up tomorrow and ready for Friday and Saturday. Just need to drop as much weight as possible. Car is pretty much stripped except for the front carpeting, AC, heater core, extra wiring.

Is there a lightweight battery option for street cars that will hold a charge?...not looking to drop 1k on a battery.

I tried the reasonable route with antigravity- They haven't really gotten it right just yet.
I know $1k is a lot, but you have to think of it like this, it is a new battery (expensive anyways), you are dropping significant weight, and it lasts about twice as long. So it's like getting two batteries, you just pay for it up front.

This is one of those things where you can't have your cake and eat it too.

I've heard good things about Braille B2015, but I'm worried about the temp range.

CCA seems low, but I don't know what these cars actually need. Might depend on your weather as well.

I have some braille in my track car. Never been an issue always in trickle though at home

Or you can use the E46M3 CSL/Mini battery, which shaves off ~25lbs and no bracket needed, works perfectly.

Z4M battery has a bit more capacity and weight (9lbs more than CSL battery).
