Why are my tires looking a little stretched?

Just got new wheels and tires for my F80 - 20 x 9.5 on the front and 20 x 10.5 on the rear.

Went with Michelin PSS in sizes 265/30/20 and 285/30/20.

Everything is read pointed to those being just right for that width rim.

The fronts look perfect, but the rears are ugly and look very stretched. Very disappointed.

Should've gone with 295/30/20 I suppose, so I guess I'll order some new rears and sell the 285s.

Anyone had a similar experience? I would've thought 285s would be spot on for a 10.5 inch rim.

Did you order the star spec MPSS? Those are narrower than the regular MPSS

I don't think so... I wasn't aware of a "star spec" version. Unless they messed up and sent the wrong ones...

Where on the tire do I look to confirm which one I have?

Not all of Michelin's PSS have the same dimensions. For example the 285/30/20 MPSS comes in 4 different samples. The tread width ranges from 9.5" to 10.2"; the K1 Ferrari version being the thinnest. You said there is no "star" marking... now check to see if you have a K1 or MO marking on the tire. If there is no special marking, then you should have the normal version and widest of the four.

Aha... very helpful.

It appears they have given me the normal one for the fronts, but the narrower M01 version for the rears.

Is there a overview for other sizes like 305/25?

Yes. The image I posted was a screenshot straight from tirerack. You can go to each individual tire's "Specs" or you can compare like I did in that screenshot.

Swapped these tires for 295/30/20

No good, rubbing quite often

Back to 285s I think... but the "standard" ones, not the M01 versions or the star spec... given the latter two are slightly narrower

There's only one 305/25/20 PSS tire. No car comes with that size from factory, unlike the 285/30/20 size.
