Track coilover and setup suggestion??
Hi guys. I have e92 m3 with ohlins R&T coilovers. Lately i upgraded my oem ohlins springs to 600 spring rate front and 800 at the back. Car has 1.3 negative camber in front Car has ess650 kit as well.
Well car has no body roll now but its more stiff now. When i brake hard on track it slides. When i turn it over steers a bit. Question is that should i play with dampening? Or u think springs are too stiff for ohlins without revalving? Should i go back to oem springs with little bit stiffer springs in front? Should i put more camber in front and at the back. I run good track tires too. Im confused what setup to run at the track. I track hard . Power wise i have no issues with ess kit. Its just the suspention im stuck with. If anyone can give me a best track setup advice i will be very thankful to you plus i will pay if your advice worked on mg car. Thanking you in anticipation |

You'll probably get more in the track section here. It's pretty active.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

There are a lot of factors at play here. Are you braking in a straight line or are you braking while turning?
How is your alignment and when did you get it set up last. -1.3 is pretty OEM, should have a lot of tire contact patch.

Yes many factors as stated by the member above. Also,
1) running a BBK? 2) What sway bars are you running? 3) Tire pressure? 4)What's your alignment besides front camber, ride height? Toe? Pretty much all of it. Just because a car is stiffer doesn't necessarily means it "best" for handling/tracking. |

I have Ohlins R&T with camber set -2.8-F/2.0-R. Didn't upgrade springs to a higher rate but did notice some body roll and understeer even with -2.8 front camber. Dinan front bar fixed that and now car feels good in high speed braking and high speed transitions.
You have to remember, this is not a hard core set up, but it is a huge upgrade from the stock susp. In soft settings it feels as good or better as stock, go stiffer and it feels great on the track. If it was track only car I would go with MCS coilovers no doubt. In your case, I think you definitely need at least 2.8-3.0 neg camber up front and a stiffer front bar. Still may not be enough for those dampers with your ESS kit. Keep in mind, that kit adds about 100 pounds to the front of the car

You definitely need more front camber. At least -2.5. I run -3 front and -2 rear. I'm still working out the kinks on my car (new build) so I can't tell you the exact best camber settings but I can say that it did feel neutral on my last track day.

This is an easy one ...your suspension is too way too stiff. You need body roll, nose dive and squat to get the tires to work. Otherwise, your car is basically a chassis riding in cinder blocks.
Has nothing to do with alignment.

^ that's pretty much the answer but I was kind of thinking it was a troll thread (no offense OP) because if he's "tracking hard" with a supercharger I'd think the -1.3 camber and Ohlins R&T with good track tires are already bad choices.

Focus less on setup and parts and sign up for a driving school. You'll learn a lot and go faster than messing with setup.
You're probably overdriving or not driving smooth. An in-car video would help more than listing your mods etc.

No amount of coil over advice is going to fix what is wrong, when what is wrong is not with the car but the wetware that operates it.
