Just how bad is this
So, I am fairly knowledgeable about cars, can do a lot of work myself, but the one thing I admit I know little to nothing about is tires. my car has been pulling left, so I need to get alignment looked at, but I also need to replace my front driver side tire. Question is, how soon. I want to replace it this week or next weekend, but wanted to confirm this was actually safe to drive on. It looks like there is some thread hanging out of the inner tire, as you can see in one of the pics. The other front tire and both rear are in pretty good shape. The front looks brand new. This tire, though, is in bad shape. Would I be safe commuting to and from work on this? 18 miles each way, all highway.

As a follow up as well, I know usually a set should be swapped out together (both fronts or both rears). Would it be terrible to just swap this one tire? I turn in the car in April 2018, so just about 9 months. |

Listen man, just get a new set and enjoy the car for the remaining 9 months on new tires. Thats what I just did, bought 4 new tires last week and my lease turn in is in March.
I'm from Miami too, and with all of the rain that we're getting here I know for a fact that your car is driving like shit, and you're not having fun driving it. Why drive it around like that? Order a set ASAP and enjoy the rest of your lease term in a safe way. |

Super odd, seems to be happening to a lot of people. This is what my fronts look like currently, I just found out after leaving the tire shop to install new rear tires. They had to order fronts, so I'm returning today.
Definitely going to get another alignment, but makes me wonder if its rubbing the inner perch or the rubber seat that the spring sits on. I had it aligned after my car settled when I installed Macht Schnell springs from EAS but this looks like something rubbing to me.

I'll offer a couterpoint.
I've tracked cars at full steam with a lot more cord showing on my tires. There is nothing really dramatically "unsafe" per-se with a little cord showing, besides that it usually means there is little tread depth left and it could get hairy in the rain (but it does not seem to be your case here). However, if you see metal, that is absolute no-go. Do not wait too long though, as metal will eventually poke out and at that point, the structural integrity of the tire starts to be impacted.

No, it was not corner balanced. It is lowered without camber plate, but once again my negative camber isn't extreme. I've run much more aggressive setups before and didn't have an issue this bad.

I also agree that toe is usually more the culprit than camber for such wear.

Are the corded tires the PSS or the Bridgestone? What size and spec were they?

Then it is very likely an alignment issue.
