Bridgestone RE71R high mileage review & what’s next?
I just clocked 36,000 miles on my 2016 M3. The RE71R’s are my second set, which have 17,000 miles on them. Never tracked or drag raced on these tires, just some high speed ramps to highways and a long 4,000 mile trip across country. The front tires still have 80% tread life left and the rears have about 20% left, not at wear bars yet. Maybe another 3,000 miles to go, not bad to get 20,000 miles on such soft rubber. Also amazing how even the wear is across the thread. They truly are great tires and so much fun to drive aggressively on. Of course the only complaint is they are a little noisy, depending on the road surface. Certain roads they do howl like crazy but around S Florida normally the road surface is not that noisy.
I’ve decided that I have had my fun and would like to switch to something else. The traffic here is very congested and my wife, who rides with me most of the time, does not allow me to explore the outer limits of the tires potential so it is an overkill to have these amazing tires on my car. I would like to try a tire that still performs but is quiet and gets even higher mileage. After doing my search on the web it looks like the Bridgestone RE-11 or the new Michelin PS-S4 would be a good choice. I leaning more towards the Michelin. I would appreciate some input on this subject from anyone who has tried these tires. I run 265/35-19 on the front and 305/30-19 on the rears on stock rims, no suspension mods or spacers. PS. I would consider selling these tires before I totally wear them out, if anyone would be interested in trying them. I am sure they are good for 2 or more track days. Local pickup only please, too expensive to ship. |

305 rears on the stock 19" wheels? Do you have a pic on how much it bulges out?
RE-11's are an older version of this tire, so I'd imagine it would be very similar. |

The outer tread blocks on the fronts were gone way before the rest of the tire though, and that is just street driving, no track. I now have the Advan Neova 08r and while just a tick less grippy than the RE-71r, they are quieter and are lasting longer.

Here's a pic of the rear tire side profile. I don't see any abnormal bulging, no problem with traction control and no rubbing with 305/30-19 on stock 10in wide rims.

Don't mean to bring this thread back up, but would you mind posting a pic of how the whole car looks with your tire setup? Considering they're still 305s on stock wheels. Maybe some updated opinions on them if you have any .Harveyd396

I've been running my RE71R for almost a year now. They are pretty noisy for daily driving. When you're on some smooth roads, they howl like crazy. I noticed it more as it's worn down a bit. They were pretty quiet when they were newer. They also kick up a huge amount of debris/pebbles. My rear fender flare and rear bumper were totally fine with my previous RE-11s. But after almost a year of the RE71Rs, they are all chipped up. But from a performance standpoint, they are so good at what they do. That and the fact that they look aggressive/cool as hell.
So I decided to try a set of Continental ECS on my other set of wheels (they're supposed to be comparable to the Michelin PS4S). They definitely don't look as cool as the RE71R, but man are they comfortable and quiet. So much so, that I stiffened up my compression and rebound on my coilovers. In terms of performance, they're not as sticky as the RE71R (duh), but they're super predictable when they breakaway. Another plus side is that they don't kick up as much debris. I think I'm gonna go with the ECS on my main set of wheels when the RE71Rs wear down more. Bridgestone RE71R Continental ExtremeContact Sport |

RE71r isn't exactly a quiet tire; the RE71R makes this noise over smooth / grippy pavement sometimes that I haven't heard other tires do. It sounds like when tape is being removed from a desk continuously, it's the best way I can describe the sound. Doesn't really bother me, but definitely noisier than any other tire I've ran.

Definitely a dream compared to R888s...
Too bad they don't make a 295 in the 19.

Is that the little league field off PCH and Malibu Cnyn? Sure looks familiar. I will be picking up the RE71R's when my Pilot Super Sports wear out.

I have RE71R too.
the noise depends on the texture of the road. on the crappy roads here in CA it can be quiet for a min then really loud the next. the other noise is hitting sharp imperfections/bumps. you hear donk on every one! really grippy tire but it is necessary if you've up the boost |

I find both the PSS and PS4S easily overwhelmed by M4 ZCP power even on 295s. Are these any better grip wise? Looks like they've got comparable tread life.

RE71R or Hankook RS4 (if they made them in this size) do not have to heat up like the Sport Cups. They are along the lines of the PSS and the new PS4s
