M4CS
Hi all,
M4CS pricing has finally been announced and I am seeking a bit of extra information that I might have missed in the plethora of articles before I place my build deposit. Would anyone know how many cars will be making it to Australia? I heard that there will be approx. 3000 worldwide and maybe 50 making it here. There are five colours being released: alpine white, sapphire black, san marino blue, lime rock grey (individual colour) and frozen dark blue ii (individual colour). An article also said that frozen dark blue ii would be only built on a limited number of cars. I haven't been able to find a photo of frozen dark blue ii, just frozen dark blue so wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. I'm currently leaning on san marino blue as I find it the most striking. What colour would you all get? Cheers! |

Lime rock grey or frozen blue that way the car will be special. Alpine white, Sapphire black and San Marino are not exclusive to the CS and therefore will detract from the "specialness" of the CS. I would restrict my choice to one of the two if I was you. In the end you only can tell which color you like and want.

lol no it's not.
If you are lucky, and a ball breaker, you might get an M3 CP under $140k. Then add at least $100k for an M2. If you buy a used M3 CP (120k) and M2 (90-100k) you might pull that off. I'm keen to see what price they will actually sell for - I too think the price is insanely high for what you get.

My (former) M2 Pure was $96k. We just picked up a brand new F80 M3 Competition for under $125k. Both cars were from different dealers too- no loyalty bonus. $220k is doable... but that's GT4 money.

Sorry, you bought a brand new 2017, not demo, M3 CP for under $125k without any trade in introducing funny business with the LCT? This is an extremely common tactic which can show an unrealistic purchase price.
Yes, pure for just shy of 100k, though that is rare. I stand by my comment really as the prices you have suggest are far from typical. At $135k for an M3 CP, a dealer is losing about 7k. However dealers do this all the time as they make a lot more from the 120i's and X1's etc. that they sell. So it balances out over the month. However 125k for an M3 CP. I'd have to see a contract to believe that. The loss is just too significant to a dealer to justify doing such a transaction. Now you can find a used 2016 easily for $120k now, with 10k kilometers, and that's a pretty great deal IMO. |

M2 still has it's shine (hype) with a lot of people, but walk in and buy off the floor at end of month (or better EOFY) and you can get a good deal. I will call the $125 out though. If it's real you've taken the "I paid less than you" crown. While we are hijacking a thread, my $220k bucket list is still my M3 CP, a 650i (lot's of mods for ~650bhp) and enough left for a neat Z4.

At that price we could have any of colour (other than individual colors). BMW seemed to have a warehouse full of them waiting for compliance.

LCI 2 production started in March. My car was built April and complied in June. Not sure why your car would be built in Jan but not complied until June. Did you have a trade?

BMW had stock of every standard colour available with build dates before March 17 (even some mid 2016 builds). I understand that they fit compliance plates as close as possible to the sale date as a cost saving process. It looks to me like they either oversubscribed to cars when ordering stock or underestimated the impact of the BMW finance debacle.

Likely a combination.
From what I gather, there was a stop on production of M3 LCI 1.0 car's in the USA for Jan-June. Builds from July will be available in the USA. Something along those lines. Incredible price on the car. I will safely say that you paid the least i've heard of for a brand new M3 CP (or M3 for that matter).

125k for a CP is a great price! That's within 10-15k of an M2.
220k for the CS is quite expensive... as others have said a lot of faster, more capable cars for that money. But each to their own I guess... if you want one, you just want one! |

Dave-A, how do you find the M3 CP vs the M2?
I'm tossing up between a 2, 3, and 4! The 3 is definitely the best value, just about the same price as a 2! |

The M2 is certainly more approachable and fun to throw around but the M3/4 is a far faster and more capable and complete car, plus has a lot more room inside.
At these prices I wouldn't think twice on the M3 CP. Ps. We have both in the family so this is coming from a lot of seat time in each car |

The M2 is visceral. It feels like a small car- very easy to place into a corner and lovely turn in. It's also the best sounding of the three. My only issue with the M2 is the stock suspension is under dampened and over sprung. On fast roads the car is very unsettled in the rear- which is disconcerting when you're trying to press on. I ended up selling my M2 and buying a 1M and e90 M3. The F80 M3 is a vey different car to the M2. It's much more bipolar- it can drive along like a 320i and then become an animal with the press of a button. The suspension in the Competition is more resolved than the M2- the rear axle doesn't skip as badly. That said, the F80 doesn't have the turn in of the M2 and it feels big- much bigger than the on paper size suggests. The F82 M4 is my least favourite of the three. It still has the same problems with an unsettled rear axle (albeit not as badly as the M2) and it doesn't turn in as well as the M2. I also think it looks awkward from the rear 3/4 view.
