Wheel arch yellowing

I have a Alpine White 2016 M4 with the wheel arch protection directly from the factory. The wheel arch film is noticeably "yellower" than the rest of the car that does not have the film. I assume others are having similar issues. I tried looking though the forum cause I'm sure there may already maybe threads regarding this but I did not find anything. Interested in seeing what others experiences on this are and if they have had any luck getting this film replaced under warranty.

I would just remove the film like I've done on mine.

Yes I have it also, it's all banged up and sticks out on the car more now than it ever did. Not to mention air bubbles get trapped under it now and again.

First thing that went when I got the car was that useless piece of protective film. Car is completely wrapped instead. No yellowing with Expel.

How is that area holding up since you removed it? I've heard that this protective film isn't on all M4's according to my detailer. He said he believes they started putting them on 16 models. He doesn't recalls seeing it on the 15's.

It has been on the M4s from the beginning. My July 2014 built M4 has it. Many dealers removed it on new cars because they mistakenly thought it was part of the transit package.

Get rid of the factory piece and have a larger area covered with Xpel. Even if you don't wrap other areas of the car, this will be inexpensive, provide more protection, and eliminate the "yellow" look.

My car is from June 2014, so it was there from the earliest models. I removed them over 2 years ago and there's no visible damage where the film used to be.

Any clear plastic or film that yellows will show more prominently on a white car. I had Xpel replaced under warranty on my last (white) car because it yellowed.

Try cleaning it with Xpel cleaner (available online) or similar and scrubbing it with a soft fender brush. If you can clean it up, try putting a sealer on it. I don't think the factory installed are exactly the same as paint protection film but these steps may help.

If those steps don't work, as others suggested, try getting them replaced with paint protection film. Shouldn't cost too much and the paint film will have a warranty (10 years for Xpel, 5 for most others). Just keep up with cleaning and sealing because the film will yellow with contaminants and, as I said, it is more noticeable on a white car than any other color.

If anyone is still having this issue, you can polish the clear protector with a dual action polisher. It will yellow again over time but if you don’t want to remove it it will clear it up for you in a few min. Larry Kosilla has a video on how to do it on his AmmoNYC channel on YouTube.
