I'm coming up on new tires. So I am looking around. Your answer depends on your driving needs. Do you track? How much does it rain where you drive? Temperature? What is your road noise tolerance?
I had the OEM PSS on and I've been pleased with the tires. I live in Phoenix, so mostly dry driving. The PSS's have been a very good balance between performance and live ability. Looking around at reviews it looks like they would be hard to beat, so I am sticking with them. |

There is no "best" tire. Only the best compromise depending on your needs exists.
You need to be more explicit what you are looking for.

Michelin has the new PS4 which just come out. Michelin has been considered the cats meow since their introduction and the PS4 is an improvement on essentially all aspects of that tire including better grip (dry and wet), comfort and surprisingly price.
Let us know if you're looking for a set we just got some in stock and they look delicious (for a tire) |

I'm not OP but I am also in the same boat and am wondering what's the best compromise (for me).
My background and requirement: Light track use. Estimate 6-8 days a year totally. I may do a lot of power lunch programs offered by local racing school which is just one hour continuous track run. I normally take a 5-10 mins break after 25 mins run then run again. Sometimes when I feel good, I may run continuously for the full hour. I want to use the stock 19 inches wheels for both street and track because I don't really have time before and after to switch between dedicated track set and street set, so want to keep things simple for me. I am inexperienced. I started tracking last year and I have been using the horrible Conti 5P stock tires which don't quite grip. I do have GC camber plates in the front to avoid killing those tires in just a few hours. I don't care about comfort/noise of the tire but I do need to drive them on street for work. I live at Seattle area so tires need to deal with water quite often. I understand CanAutM3 recommended MPSS 265/35R19 MO fron and MPSS 295/35R19 Star BMW rear for the setup. I am just wondering whether there are new tires/information that maybe there are good choices from extreme performance tires as well (without switching wheels obviously). Thanks a lot! |

I live in nyc, i haven't tracked my car yet but would like to eventually, i just got it a few months ago. In addition i want something with good grip as i drive aggressively so some sporty tires would be nice.

Have you come to any conclusions here? I'm in the city as well and will be acquiring a short term, 15 month lease, and need winters as well as new regular tires. Thanks

For daily driving any of the high performance tires that are DOT approved are good.
PSS have better tread life than 71R. 71R have better grip. I don't think it is sane to take advantage of the better grip during daily. /soapbox For tracking, my experience says you want camber plates. I did 1 day at Thunderhill 2 mile course (completely stock) and that was all she wrote from my 71R tires. Wore the outer edges of passenger side down. You need negative camber to help get more even wear when tracking the car. For autocross I have not experienced any uneven wear issues with stock car. The lower speed is probably why. Autocross : 16-20 laps, 35 seconds each lap so 11-12 minutes of driving time. 60 mph max speed. Even at 10 events in a season (110-120 minutes driving time) I did not notice uneven wear. Track at Thill 2 mile: 6, 20 minutes sessions. I drove nearly the whole time so call it 110 minutes of driving. 105 mph max speed. This one day alone killed my tires. More negative camber front and rear would have helped a lot, I think. |

I just purchased mpss stars 275 35 19 for the front and 295 35 19 for the rears. It was expensive but it hooks like crazy with the vf stage one tune. I also think the cars stance looks better in certain angles
