We know the highlights of running a square setup is the ability to rotate tires for more even wear and longevity as well as decreasing understeer. Being that the widest generally accepted front tire is a 275 width, it also helps to keep tire costs down.
That said, my question is for anyone who has gone from a square setup back to staggered: Why? Was it preferred driving dynamics? Ability to get on throttle earlier? Love to hear feedback. I bought a set of 18x10's and planned on going 275 or maybe 285 sqaure but am debating going with a wider rear setup. Budgeting a set of street tires for a year (realistically 6 months/12 track days), the cost difference of 275 squared to 275/295 staggered seems to be less than $200. So it's not that much more if the benefits are there. Last edited by Nihilation; 02-27-2017 at 03:47 PM.. |

Well, one should try to maximize grip
10.5 square fits pretty well, so you can start with that If I could run it staggered, I'd run it with an 11 rear... but there isn't an 11 rear right now that is well documented to fit So, I keep my square setup |

I have a set of 315's I got for really cheap with a set of 275 nt01's. I was planning on running them on my square 10.5 wheels the next time i went to the streets of willow. Just to screw around, mostly. Not sure if I'll like it or not, but it's a tighter course and I wanted to see if it helps with more push out of the turns.

I run 295 square and the only reason for me to go staggered is if I go full race slicks and try and fit something larger in the rear. However, that would require rolling the fenders and cutting some crap out of the way.

18x11 et 25, 305/645-18 Square.
AST5200 GS Doubles. Swift 16KF, 18KR Camber is -3.8F, Rear is -2.4. Zero Toe F&R 18mm spacer in front to clear the lower spring perch. 10mm spacer in rear to make up the difference in front track gain. This setup has great turn in and overall grip. Car is not pushy unless I'm overdriving it and it rotates under power without any instability. I've done 275/295 staggered, 285 square on 18X10 square, 285/295, 295 Square, 295/315 and putting 305's in front on the 18X11 has been the secret sauce. I never see myself going back to a staggered setup. |

Wondering what your wheel and camber specs were while running 295 square, and if you had any issues? I'm on 18x10.5 apex wheels with -3.2 camber up front. |

I think it's hard to definitively say that one setup is optimal for every car/track/driver. What mods does your car have? What's your driving style?
