Spare tire should be a front or rear wheel?

Going to carry a full size spare on longer trips. Curious what opinions people have on whether to carry a front 9" or rear 10" spare. I have a comp pkg m3 with stoptech st60/40 kit. 245/265 35 tires.

I'm leaning towards a rear 10" right now.

I think rear tires have more flats than fronts. Differential would probably like a rear tire if you have a rear flat. But have you tried one of your rears on the front to see if there is clearance?

Have you eliminated the idea of a compact spare?

I would carry a front. Not sure if a rear would fit if you had a flat on the front. Maybe it will. But I would always go with the smaller option to guarantee that it would fit on any of the corners.

I use one of my 255/35-19's on an 8.5" front 220M when I carry a spare, which is a 26" tall tire. That way it's close enough to the rear tires I tend to run but still fits on the front comfortably. Might have a pull depending what front tire I'm running but the rears are always 25.6-26.5" tall depending on what my flavor of the month is so it will be close enough to keep the diff from getting too pissed in the short term

If I were you I'd carry the rear. It'll work as apare on the front you'll just have to be comfortable with holes in the fender liner if you turn the wheel too much too often

If I wanted to make a "compact" but still full-size, full speed capable spare setup I'd probably use a 225/40-19 Run-Flat on a 8" ~ET35 wheel for a non-M and just carry a spacer if necessary. The 19" wheel leaves more fudge factor for brake clearance and more room inside the barrel to pack stuff, the narrow rim and tire leave more room for other stuff. Lots of V+ rated 225/40-19" RFT's to choose from and then you don't have to worry about a flat on your spare or driving 50mph or less than 100mph for that matter...but that's probably overthinking it for most people

Yes I have had two flats so far and both were one of my rear tires. I have fit 18x10 et25 apex rims on the front and they did fit although it was real tight clearing the inner spring. I also know people run square zcp set ups so I think the rear will fit in the front. I will try and fit it when I get a chance.

I would love a compact spare but I think since I have a bbk it will not clear.

If I was closer we could check with mine. Maybe someone closer will read this. Or maybe they have tried it with BBK.

Have you read this: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...ght=spare+tire

I don't remember if they discussed BBK.

And you can get a compact spare with 26 inch OD.

!9x10 on front

Had a chance to throw the rear tire on the front and looked like it will work in a pinch. Here's the normal 19x9 in front 245/35 R19 Michelin PS2

Here's the 19x10 in front. 265/35 R19 Michelin PS2. I could tell this 19x10 rear had a slightly larger diameter (was slightly taller) than the 19x9 but I think this would get me home
