Signature wheels 9 pounds lighter per wheel...wow
I have had my 3rd track weekend with my new signature one pieced forged 19 inch wheels with custom offsets which are essentially same offsets as oem zcp wheels with just a couple mm more aggressive. I wanted stock sizes and got 9 inch front, 10 inch rear. I kept the same brand and size tire as I ran on my zcp wheels which are stock sizes 265 rear and245 front so I didn't want to add weight by going to heavier wider tire. Re71r have so impressed me. They are wider than PSS or pilot cup 2s size for size.
Signature wheels are almost exactly 9 pounds lighter per wheel and no additional tire weight. Wheels have held up well, taking very hard bumps and rumbles trips etc. But the most absolutely amazing thing is the damn acceleration in a straight line andcorneringgrip/speed. This is no placebo effect and is quite drastic of a difference. I runs a me tracks and often same cars out in my group and on long straights I was several mph faster and especially from 2 and 3 gear it just moves. Cornering grip I thought and hoped would beat good improvement and agsin I was literally shocked at the speed and grip I was taking turns I had done a100 times. I have zcp edc run on sport and vorshlag camber plates running 2.9 up front, and 1 rear. Same alignment before. The ability of the tire to hold grip and stick was just so interesting. Despite many popular beliefs my research and experience has led me to believe wider tires don't improve grip in the corners on a car designed with a size in mind. The drastically lower unsprung weight just keeps the tire planted as the shock has to manage less force in hard compression. The lighter rotational weights dramatic in a straight line. Very very worthwhile mod. Secondly to proper track tires and brake pads. Very impressed. |

I looked up zcp wheels and they are 27 pounds or so . Signature are 18 and 19 rear. So 8 or 9 pounds lighter yes. Other than tires send camber plates, this was the best mod I've done at cutting laprimes. On my regular tracks. Shaved 2 seconds off the most recent track day at a track I've been to 8 times since august

That's why I'm curious to see actual weights on an actual scale

... not that 1lbs per wheel in unsprung weight is a lot...
... not that fully forged best in the business aluminum is another world compared to flow form casting process... |

I think if you need to save the weight and need the fully forged wheel, then it is worthwhile to spend several times the money. I don't track my car so I don't need to. I bought my Apex 18 x 9.5/10.5 six years and 50k miles ago and they have held up fine, so I think the value and durability is good and the weight savings still dramatic over stock.

apex's brilliant strategy has been targeting the market for a reasonably priced, lower weight track wheel. yes, they aren't as strong as a forged wheel, but they are reasonably priced for their intended use. when you track your car, wheels become a consumable item. trying to compare them to a forged wheel is a bit silly unless cost is a complete non-issue.
when spending thousands on a set of track wheels, sure- mention weights and question strengths. kinda useless to compare a proven wheel like apex to a forged wheel.

Absolutely. Not intending to knock on apex at all. I'm actually quite happy to see their following grow as they seem to be the only ones offering a transparent product. Straight forward honest flow form wheel at an expected cost targeted at both function and form. From 17" to 19" from 8" width to 11". 3 styles. No BMW premium pricing. I'd personally take an apex wheel over works, advans, forgestar, etc if you talk apples to apples cast to cast dollar to dollar
Myself personally I see the value of a forged wheel to an extent. It's one of the few mods I'd invest in within reason. 3gs for volk is ok. 8gs for bbs. I'm no trackstar nor do I own a money tree lol The point the OP was making was pointing out the "CRAZY" upgrade of signature wheel which is fully forged. So a few of us are asking to see some weighted numbers as it seems to be claiming better weight than top tier forged wheels. Apples to apples. Then someone threw in the good ol "get some apex"... then I threw in the good ol "talkin about forgedddd"... and henceforth lol |

Agree that lightweight wheels make a pretty noticeable difference. However, you have to be careful when using quoted weights from the manufacturer...much better to weigh them on a scale yourself. The paint/coating can actually add 1+lb per wheel for thicker coats. Most expensive forged options after BBS FI and RI-D come in around 20 lbs.
Also, wider tires on those wheel sizes will help improve grip. In certain tires (e.g. the PSC2) the weight difference of going a size up is 1-2 lbs per tire at most, but the grip in corners is significantly better than the stock 245/65 sizes. The RE71s do run wide size for size, but I can fit more tire without rubbing going a size up in the PSC2 (and they're a few lbs lighter than stock sized RE71s). There's a reason why the fastest M3s on the track are setup with the widest tire/wheels possible (especially in the rear where it is critical). If really dead set on keeping stock tire sizes, the RE71s probably one of the best bangs for the buck grip and longevity wise. Great in the wet too.
