Suntek clear bra

Hey guys,

I'm about to get my M3 clear bra'd and the one shop I'm talking to deals with 6.5 mm Suntek. Does anyone have experience with that, positive or negative?

Also, I'll be getting the "standard" areas done, but is there anywhere else I should consider? I was thinking rockers, rear fender extension and the rear bumper behind the wheels.

Thanks

I have SunTek on my M4. Full hood, front fenders, bumpers, mirrors and headlights + roof, a-pillars and door strips. It has been almost a year and 1/2 and around 12K miles. Still looks great.

I have had 3M, Xpel and now Suntek and like Suntek the best. It has a glossier finish and the installer told me it was the easiest to install (which means less chance of install imperfections). I'm very comfortable recommending it. Be aware it has only a 5 year warranty vs. 10 for Xpel (which also makes a very good product).

I have Suntek as well. On my last car (F30) I had 3m pro on the bumper and Sunteck on the full hood because 3m didn't have the larger roll yet. Comparing side-by-side the Suntek was much better. Couldn't even tell it was on over the paint while the 3m was a lot more orange peel looking. Still looked good but not as good as the Suntek. Now my M4 has full hood, bumper, fenders, headlights (BMW headlights suck for pits from sand) mirrors and rockers. I thought about doing the hood and rear bumper, but not yet. bill was large enough at that point. lol...You really can't go wrong with either Suntek or XPel. Suntek is a little glossier. I would stay away from 3m just because of the orange peel.

Another vote for Suntek here. I suggest doing the full rear bumper or at least the top part where trunk opens. You should also consider doing the A pillars, mirrors, door cups and door edges since some do not consider these "standard".

I just got a quote for front bumper and headlights for $350 for suntek. If you add the hood (8-10inches) the guy mentioned $650.Is this reasonable?
I want minimal most required areas covered with clear bra as in the past I have had bad experiences with clear bra (Had to pay $400 to get it removed from my previous car).

what other area is absolute critical to get it covered with suntek?

See my post above. Also, if you have a darker color, I advise against partial hood since the line will show when the car is not perfectly clean. Was your bad experience in the past perhaps related to a bad install?

$650 seems reasonable for what you were quote for.

I have Ferrari Red so should I get partial hood or no? any other areas that are critical? fenders?

the install was great - took great care of over the years - somehow it ended up looking like shit as the years passed - got it removed close to 8 years - was all cracked and looked v nasty.

I just dropped mine off for the suntek today. Bumper, partial hood / fenders, headlights and an additional swatch on the rear fenders for extra protection for $950 total.

Ok, well films have come a long way and should last and self-heal much better than anything available 8 years ago. I used to be a huge fan of 3M films and always put their Pro series on my cars. When I compared the orange peel and healing properties of Suntek, I was convinced it was the way to go. Plus, it is much much easier to work with and very forgiving on install. How they hold up will depend on how well you maintain your car.

I would say on a red car, you will want to do full hood to avoid lines and rock chips that go past the film. Definitely do a larger rear fender section which will require they remove what comes from factory.

I think by a narrow gnats ass hair Suntek may look better, but after seeing the performance between Suntek and Xpel I'd go with Xpel. It's slightly thicker but in my experience it seemed to repel damage much better.

Usually they do partial fenders together with partial hood. Along with front bumper, headlights and maybe mirrors, those are most critical areas to protect.

Suntek Self healing films are amazing films. 3M clarity wise is horrible. Xpel Ultimate is great but lacks a bit on clarity as well. The only other film that gets close and some Pro detailers are installing now is Clear Guard Nano films, which is the first in the industry to come with a protective coating and the clarity is nuts too.

Suntek is still my favorite for sure. Ask any installer, they love how easy it is to install it without issues.

I just had lumar film done on my mineral white f80 and you cannot even tell it is there. Saw some others with xpel and there was a slight color difference. Very happy with the lumar.

Do the full hood and fenders. The way the hood is shaped it will get chip way up and you have the bump as well. The fenders bulge out so they are also very suspect to chips.

I had xpel on my F80 I got rid of. It was Alpine white, so a bit harder to gauge the clarity of the film. It did look good though. I am considering Suntek or Llumar on my F82 I'll be taking delivery on soon.

I would recommend full hood, full front fenders, front portion of roof, rockers, and even the rear quarters and the black portion of the side mirrors. These are all areas I found rock chips on, on my F80. And I don't tailgate.

Have any of you guys heard of Stek or Nano Fusion clear films?

Suntek 2 1/2 years ago and still looks great! Should of done rocker panels too. Too late for you to ask them to do yours?

Thanks for the heads up! I ended up having them do about 6 inches on both the front and back ends of each rocker.
