Cool Shirt Install

My wife (and sponsor) was kind enough to surprise me with a cool shirt kit a few weeks ago for our anniversary, and I finally got around to installing it. Project was pretty straight forward, and I bought some additional wire and a fuse tap kit from Amazon and some hardware to bolt the tray down from Lowe's

I still have a passenger seat, so the trunk seemed the most logical spot. Don't think it will get much use until later on in the spring out in CA, but back on the east coast it will get a ton of use.

Step 1:

Removed the plastic tray in the trunk

Step 2:

Bolted the cooler bracket to the plastic tray

Step 3:

Installed the plastic tray and the cooler. In retrospect, I think I will move the bracket or rotate the cooler 180 degrees so the coolant lines are not pointed at the battery. The coolant inlet/outlet connectors are very secure, but my design should be more disaster proof. The plastic tray is well set up to catch drips or spills.

Step 4:

Ran the wiring and installed the on/off switch. Fuse tap was easy enough and I taped and zip-tied up the wiring. Ran the coolant line as well.

Cool. I'm thinking of getting the karting version. Just throw the bag behind the seat.

the bagged version is nice if you dont want to hardwire it or have multiple cars to run with. This is what my father runs. It works really well but the ice does not last as long as the cooler is much more effective than the insulated bag. But either is a great choice.

Cool shirt was the best mod I ever bought for my race car.

Tip: use old margarine or yogurt containers to freeze blocks of ice instead of using cubed ice. The blocks last a lot longer. Just stack them in your cooler and use cube ice to fill the gaps (if any).

Are you thinking 6 qt or 12 qt version? Then I'm also thinking about the best place to plug this in as I use my central 12v plug for my GoPro. If it can work on USB power I have a two USB adaptor I can use.

It is surprisingly easy to run another line for power from the fuse tray behind the glove box.

not sure exactly yet but I'm thinking if the 6qt is good enough for the whole session, it will be perfectly fine. We usually have ice boxes/bags brought to the track so plenty to spare.
