Dog owners - how do you protect your leather?

I have a 50lbs Boxer that loves going on car rides. My current car has fake leather but my new M3 has SO leather and I am worried about him jumping in the car and poking wholes in the leather with his paws.

Has this happen to anyone?

No because I use a seat cover when my dogs go in the car.

50lb vizsla just hops in the back seat and sits on a towel in both my M4 and X1.
On my E92's I had BMW seat covers that were amazing, but they don't work in the F82 because they attach via the rear headrest which don't move in this gen.

I use this seat cover for the rear.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GJ1D13W/

I also use this mechanic's fender cover to protect my door jam. My dog likes to use the rocker panel as a step some times.

Check out this post that I posted in the Track / Autocross / Dragstrip / Driving Techniques Forum:

Much cheaper rear seat protector than the one linked to above.

Keep the nails trimmed so not too sharp, but shouldn't be a problem.

That Chino dog is cute as hell! My Karelian Bear Dog (Thor) doesn't go anywhere near my M4 but he's a little nutty.

Since the headrest of the front seat is different I got this one from Orvis. Works great and fits like a glove

I have an Amazon Basics brand cover for the backseat, but I think it may be a bit in the slippery-side. I think I'm going to order another that has a quilted look, something with a bit more grip.

The back headrests make it more difficult in the back. I got this one and it fits:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have a different one for our SUV but the straps won't fit over the rear M4 stationary headrests. If you end up with one that won't fit over those headrests, you may be able to use a carabiner, which someone else suggested to me in another thread.

dog

It took some pushing and shovin, but I got her big butt in there. I use a seat cover from Amazon for the front seat and in my 335, I had a hammock type cover. Obviously, getting Shelby in the back seat is no longer an option.

My very German schnauzer felt right at home in my 335.

He doesn't get too much car time in the M3, but we have a 100lb white lab and he loves driving. Usually put a blanket or sheet down to cover the leather, but I've never had a problem with leather ripping/being damaged.

I think it also depends on how comfortable your dog is with driving. If they are crazy in the car, definitely a bigger chance of something ripping/going wrong. If you have a dog whose used to driving/calm, you should be fine!

The dog car seat covers work great. Got a cheap one from Petco a long time ago and we have Silverstone. No issues with the leather at all after 10k miles (4K of which was a cross country trip with our dog)
