FYI, you'll need to keep your own headrests or find someone else with an '08 model to trade with. All of the '09 and up cars had AHR which uses different headrests.

I learned the hard way, had to drop $600 for a new set of bamboo headrests when I did my swap.

Can you explain why the headrest swap? Does it trigger a warning light?

I ask because I have LCI seats that I am about to install in my pre-LCI E90.

Thank you.

You should be fine. When I swapped my interior, the guy I swapped with has an '08, and the front seat headrests are different. The older ones ('08) do not have AHR, active head restraint. This is basically a small airbag in the headrest to prevent whiplash. Another way to tell is if the headrests manually tilt, they're the older style. The newer ones do not tilt manually and have the airbag units inside.

This wasn't noticed initially, but on the newer cars with AHR, you'll see an extra little white 2 wire plug under the seat. This is the headrest plug. If you're swapping non AHR seats into a car with AHR, you'll need to remove the seat back and fish the wiring harness out of the seat and reconnect in the new seat. Its all really quite easy, just something that needs to be done to prevent the airbag malfunction warning light.

Good explanation, thank you.

I'm going the opposite direction as you (AHR seats into a non-AHR vehicle) so it sounds like I'll be fine as the car shouldn't care the AHR is there.

Many thanks!
