M lap timer integration with GoPro

In a recent issue of the BMW CCA magazine it said that the latest version of the M lap timer app now allows integration with GoPro, eg starting and stopping the camera together with the lap timer etc.

Has anyone tried this and got it to work?

Is that for NBT? I know there is a GoPro app for the car, but I don't think it's for CIC.

Only the newer BMW have this. The E90/92 generation does not have M laptimer integration.

My 2011 has M laptimer, and also has the ability to record via gopro, however I haven't tried recording through Laptimer with the gopro yet.

Could you post a screen shot from a regular drive showing the speed and motor rpm's for me ?

I have the strangest laptimer log files that show that the motor/drivetrain is slipping and the clutch is dumping but I have nothing to compare it to.

Other then the examples from the laptimer of course and they look like I think they should look.

I have a 2011.75 dct.

I would appreciate if you could post a screenshot showing a acceleration and gear change.

Thanks in advance.

Could you explain how this works?
I've used the Lap timer a few times. It's not great but it's free.
How do you combine the GoPro video with the laptimer data?
.

iPhone 7 with connected drive app and GoPro capture app. Successfully connect your GoPro to the capture app on your phone. After that your phone can connect to GoPro once it's on at any time. Then if you open the mlaptimer app it will recognize you camera. Since this is the iPhone 7 and I have CIC, I had to purchase the BMW Y media cable. Then I was able to see the GoPro images on iDrive while stationery. Once you start driving the displayed image goes away even though I have video in motion. You can start and stop recording, display gforce data, display recorded track route all on iDrive screen.

Probably pretty slow -- I'd guess 1 or 2Hz. If it were 5, I would be surprised.

I don't know about that. You can start stop recording, you get great data, all apps are free that you need for this. I'm sure it's not a great idea but you can start and stop recordings while driving from iDrive which is awesome to compare lap times. Like you guys said I'm sure there is a higher latency on the data but for free, I think it's a great tool for anyone playing on the track.

I use both Harry's with my 5hz GPS, and the BMW Laptimer, the two are very close in times... You just have to make sure the start/finish points are synced between the two apps for a good comparison.

There is another option for those who want telemetry and video and want to spare some bucks (my case). Recently, I've put together some code to use a GoPro as video and GPS along with the MLaptimer app data. It is very straight forward to use, no need for wiring into any ECU neither pairing different devices via bluetooth. All you need is to go out on the track while recording with the GoPro and with the MLaptimer app. By the way, the MLaptimer for iPhone is a really cool app, specially if you consider that the car sensors (but the GPS) are very accurate.

The code I've put together will parse the MLaptimer low res GPS track with the high res GPS track from the camera, sync everything together, and output a csv file for rendering videos with Dashware or RaceRender. Even better, it also outputs a .vbo file, which can be used in CT to analyze the driving, with very good quality (of course, quality depends on how good you set up the GoPro). Check the results below and access www.easy-telemetry.com to know more. Note: processing the app files is free, but there is a little fee for processing GoPro files.
