Question What to do with SA2005 helmets?

Now that I've finally got my SA2015 helmet, my SA2005 helmet is basically of no use to me anymore. Most clubs honored them for this year due to the manufacturing delays from a lot of vendors.

What is everyone doing with their older helmets? Can you donate them to different car clubs? Should I save it for when I go out drinking on weekends?

hang it up in the garage as a sacrifice to the gods of speed.

from what i understand, the expiration date for helmets is due to the hardening of the foam inside that protects your noggen in a wreck. it would be negligent for any club or organization to accept and use it in motorsports.

I wear it to the office with the face shield down. Sends the right message to my cow-orkers (not a typo)...

I wear mine on my riding lawnmower. My neighbors stare and I'm not sure why.

Maybe because the helmet is the only thing you are wearing?

Affix a screen to it and wear it to play video games.

When I got my helmet, the helmet guy told me to wear it for about a half hour to make sure it wasn't hitting any pressure points/etc. so I get home and wear it while I'm playing gran turismo. Girlfriend didn't believe me when she caught me wearing the helmet and playing a racing game. Thought I was a bigger dork than I already was.

Donate them to your local autocross club since they will still be good for five years for newbs who don't have helmets.

They are good for ten years. A snell 2005 is good to 2015. Basically, the helmet is no good anymore.

SCCA allows current model and the two prior. As such, with 2015 current, you can use 2010 and 2005 until the next release which is 2020 which will be released probably in late 2020.
