275 square / spacer question

I just bought this bad boy a few days ago and will be swapping out the CCW wheels for some brand new silver 10" Apex Arc's on square Hankook 275/35/18's this Friday. I'm on TC Kline coilovers and want to lower it. Would 12mm spacers on the back be a problem if I duplicate the look of the 2nd car?

For the street I ran 12mm spacers and take them off on the track. What issues are you concerned with?

Lots of tracking coming up. 5 events in the next 7 weeks, as a matter of fact. I want that low, hunkered down staggered look, but don't want to rub, of course. Maybe I should just play it safe and get 5's instead of 12's?

You could ping the guys at Apex - they'd be able to answer any questions on fitment

I went ahead and ordered 12's this morning. If they rub, I'll change them out. They're just $60.

Brent - do you listen to anything I tell you or are just a fan of reinventing the wheel. LOL.

You need 5 up front minimum to not have tires hit coilover nuts. This is somewhat coilover/tire/camber dependent, but 5mm is safe. I run 12mm up front. If you want it as low as I am in the rear, you cannot stick a 12mm back there. I run 5mm. This is for 275 tires. This does not count for 275 Hoosiers. 245/40 Hoosiers are as wide as 275/35 Nittos.

But that also needs varying lengths of lug bolts or studs right?

Yes. I run shorter studs in rear.

If you run the a square wheel setup, your front track width will be wider than the rear which will increase understeer.

I always run a 12mm spacer in the rear to get back to the OEM track width stagger from front to rear.

Considering I'm coming from a 328, understeer wouldn't be such a bad thing. Are you lowered?

One car is lower and the other is near stock.

With spacers in the rear...the car will be more lively. Why even worry about how it looks on the track?

I run 275 squared, with no spacers and the handling feels more neutral to me than understeer. I would like to run spacers in the rear to be more flush, but its no big deal.

Rear spacer size will be determined by your personal preference of what looks good/flush, they are not a necessity. Ride height, tire brand/size and camber specifications all play a roll in what fits and what does not. With that said, 12mm spacers are typically perfect in this situation, they are hubcentric and you can run the car at a pretty low ride height without rubbing.

Up front, spacers are not required to clear the suspension unless you are running KW's or Ohlins.

MCS also require spacers up front.

Although I have not taken my current setup to the track, but my plan is to take off my rear spacers when going to the track. My current setup is

Wheels : APEX ARC - 8 18x10 squared, ET 25

Tires : Bridgestone S-04, 275/35 front, 285/35 rear * 12mm rear spacer

On daily driving, there is no rub, unless I've hit a dip.
