Warranty price for new 2007 Z4 Coupe 3.0si
Buying tomorrow. $12K off sticker so decent deal, not the best. Considering extended Warranty to 100K miles and want to know fair price to pay the dealer. I ed already and didn't quite find an exact answer, so I am looking for more input. How much is the mark-up on these? How low will they do the deal for? Any and all thoughts appreciated.

You may not want the warrenty. Consusmers just printed that the Z4 was the least expensive vehicle for maintenance and repairs. The rag also went on to say that extended warranties were a high priced gamble. They said that only 29% of the BMW owners buying an extended warrenty saved any money on repairs. The other side of the coin is 71% wasted their money. They say if you just can't live with out an EW, wait till your factory warrenty has 6 months left and then shop.

The dealership pushed the Extended Warranty fairly hard when I bought my Z4. I don't remember the number but I seem to recall at least a couple of $K. The funny thing is that when I declined they acted shocked and wanted to know why. When I told them I wasn't afraid of doing my own oil changes they looked at me like I was from Mars.
Anyway, I'm sure there are scenarios in which I could regret not getting the EW, but I'm willing to gamble that if a car is trouble free for 50K miles the odds of something blowing up in the next 50 that I can't fix are fairly low. Of course my last car ate its water pump at 60K and clutch at 90K, so we'll see how smart this was.... |

I believe it is 2-3K.
I agree with rc. Wait until you have 5K miles or 6 months left in the current warrenty and if you have had problems and see yourself using it get it. If you are like me and have only gotten winsheild wipers replaced once, then don't.

Thanks for the timely input. I held off at buying through the dealer. Does anyone know anything about Security National Warranty? They quoted Bumper to Bumper on all mechanical and Electrical minus wear items 2100 to get to 7 years 100K miles, zero deductible. Reasonable? If so should there be any red flags to look for if it isn't through BMW? Side note: When I bought my 2002 M3 new through BMW of SF I bought the extended warranty assuming it was a BMW Warranty and since I sold the car to my brother and he has used the extended warranty extensively, he tells me it is not through BMW, although he has had no problems getting claims paid.

Be very, very weary of EW's that don't cover "wear and tear". I've been reading about EW's and that's one of the known scams/loopholes. Basically every time you want something fixed, the insurance company says, nope, that was from "wear and tear" and refuse to cover it.

You need to beware of some of these off the wall EW companies. They come in and out of business 'daily'. They may not be around as long as the the warrenty you bought, making the EW usless. Do your home work on the net before you buy.
