Connecting Music Streaming via Bluetooth

I have been searching the forums and I can't seem to find a direct answer as it seems certain cars have different options. We were able to setup the phone via bluetooth for phone functions (call, phonebook upload, etc) but under external devices, there is no option for bluetooth audio streaming.

2011 e92 M3
BMW Assist Option (that is supposed to include Combox and bluetooth)
Enhanced Premium Audio
Full iDrive Setup

Does it have to be switched on from somewhere?

Bluetooth

I purchased the WMA3000 for my 2010 M3 a week ago. I have been unable to get it to work. It will not connect to the unit regardless what I try form the instruction and all that I have read on the forum. Any experience with the similar issues?

Thanks,

Have you gone to the phone setup in I drive and enabled Bluetooth audio?

It's very bizarre, but you have to go through the TEL menu, phones, highlight your phone then press options and select configure phone. You should be able to enable Bluetooth audio from there.

It's a pain. Every time I connect my phone to the car use it bumps the Bluetooth audio option and I have to go in there and re enable it... Took me hours the first time to solve that issue!

think some 2010/2011 M3's can only enable Bluetooth phone but no option for Bluetooth Audio... I can use the phone through Bluetooth via the iDrive but I don't have a "Bluetooth Audio" option in the iDrive... very annoying.. why would BMW enable the use of phones via iDrive but not Bluetooth Audio..? just weird..

Maybe you can save the menu spot with one of the preset buttons to save some time

Thanks, that is a good idea.

But this only happens when I connect my phone via usb cable which, because of this pain, I now try to avoid doing like the plague.

If you don't have combox, you'll need Tune2Air or something similar.

If you have a Combox equipped vehicle, follow the menu sequences in this video (not my video):

Anyone saying that the denominations between 2011, 2011.5, and 2011.75 is a distinction without a difference... take a look at the above to see exactly why you're wrong.
if you have a 2011.0, you don't have the combox for it

Simpler solution I use: get an AUX-bluetooth receiver and be done with it.

The all digital connection via usb is superior —
Is it that big a deal to plug your phone in when you get in the car?

The sound quality depends on which DAC your phone has. If the internal DAC is higher quality than what's in the car, you're going to get better sound via Bluetooth *within the bandwidth limitations of BT*; if the DAC in the car is better than your phone then the wired connection will give you the best sound. Now this discussion has me wondering just how hard it would be to wire a new DAC chipset in the car. It would be an interesting project.

Plugging the phone in is just as easy for me as just getting in my car not plugging it in. I have 3 BMWs here, all with my phone paired via BT. Two are wireless connections for audio, the third (my M3) is wired. The bigger deal for me is that I can't get track info or album covers on my iDrive display. If I could get those NBT features on my CIC I'd be thrilled.

Yet another reason to have NBT. Too bad its such a pain to install.
