JB4 Install Tips/Tricks

Though the JB4 install seems very basic, it does require some patience. Please post any suggestion you have to help aid others in the install. I have yet to install the fuel mass plug, looking for any advice on that little guy

My tips, Start with a cold engine.

The Battery is in the trunk, pull the side panel on the right side of trunk(passanger side). Use a 10mm to loosen the negative battery cable. I used a microfiber towel to keep the cable from contacting anything.

Use one of the picks pictured below to help you unlock the factory plugs.
When I removed the hose from the intercooler, I had a pretty good flow of coolant come out of the intercooler. I would recommend you have something handy to plug the hole when you remove the hose. It appears the intercooler used regular coolant (can someone confirm this)?

You're not supposed to remove the hose just the two screws on top so you can move the reservoir around....

i also had to pull reservoir tube. just removing the two screws that hold it in place didn't give me enough room to access map connector. that connector was a bitch. tmap and can connectors were a breeze. and i appeared to get lucky like some other folks and my fuel mass connector is facing up. so i removed the reservoir screws and moved it out of the way a little and was able to plug into fuel mass w/o any issue.

I also had to remove the hose and clamp it to prevent leaking coolant. There was still no way to get to the plugs by just popping the reservoir screws off.

Same I removed the hose as well because there was no way I can access the tmap.

By the way how did you guys remove the hose? I had a hell of a time. Any tips?

Also does someone have a detailed (with pics) description on how to plug in stage 2 for a 6MT? I am only on stage 1 (the 2 connectors) now but would like to upgrade soon.

The instructions isn't very clear beyond stage 1.

i have seriously large hands and I can do it without removing the hose. Loosen the reservoir and pull off the weather stripping on the back side. Ive done it 10+ times and never removed the hose.

You can also use this tool. You can unclip the original and hold the new one on the brim to plug it in. Since I got this its super easy. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hmm. Perhaps those pliers would have helped. I found the map connector to be pretty awkward to reach/get the correct angle on. Got it eventually but was a PITA.

Going to tackle EWG connectors tomorrow. Looks like forward one won't be too bad. Rear might be tougher. Rear access is always more challenging

That sounds so much like something I would do and say.

Yeh or you could just install it per the instructions which dont say to remove the tank but loosen it and be done in 20 mins.

Did the ewg connectors this morning. Not too bad. I disconnected the tube coming off the air box to allow for a bit more room while accessing rear connector.

If there are Doctors here I used a long fine right angle to get to the Tmap. First install was over an hour. Just reinstalled in 10 minutes without touching the reservoir at all.

Just did this install last sunday. It was pretty straight forward other than getting behind the reservoir. PITA! I unbolted the reservoir, and then used one had to reach back and a flat head screwdriver to push down on the tab of the connector to release it.

I did it in like 45min to an hour, now I can do it in less I bet and I did all the connectors including the fuel and EWG's

The trick is the tools above and the long pliers like this ones... its so much easier...
