Exhaust weight directory

Hi everyone,

For me, the number 1 consideration for an exhaust is its weight. There are a ton of exhaust threads on here but most are focused on sound. With the wide variety of materials and styles used in construction of exhausts I would like to get the weights all in 1 place. Please post your findings!

To start it off, I will quote EAS helpful thread about the MPE

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1092134

1. OEM Exhaust (full system) 69 lbs

M Performance Exhaust
Muffler- 14.2 lbs
Midpipe- 22.25 lbs
tips- 1 lb each
hardware- 2.35 lbs

combined weight 42.8 lbs
weight savings 26.2 lbs

2. Akrapovic Exhaust Weights (EAS)
Slip on?
Slip on section / silencer- 29.5 lbs
connecting pipe- 14 lbs
combined weight 43.5 lbs
weight savings 25.5 lbs

I'm impressed the MPE is almost as light as the Akra, I'm interested to see the other weights

Read that wrong, i guess in my head there was no way the MPE could be lighter. I'm impressed considering the midpipes on the MPE are stainless

Note that the M-Performance is a "Cut and Clamp" style, retaining secondary catalytic converters while keeping emissions compliant, which on the downside, retains a slight bit more overall weight when clamped to the remaining part of the OEM system.

Unfortunately, we were unable to get a total weight before installation. We'll update the thread with the next MPE we install.

Can you explain in more detail? I guess my question is, if you replace the factory downpipes with aftermarket downpipes does this remove both cats making it a full turbo back system or would you need new midpipes as well?

Pictures would be great when you do your next install!

Also in the post I quoted for the weight figures, does this refer to the Akrapovic Evolution exhaust or the Slip On exhaust? What are the exact differences between the two systems?

We were not able to weigh the OEM portion north of the cats/resonators to see the full weight difference before installing. We'll get this info on our next install so we can update the figures.

Downpipes will only affect the primary cats, secondaries are still present, but not as much of a restriction.

This would account for the Evolution system. Since the OEM exhaust is a a single piece, we would need to cut the muffler off to compare figures.

I've got all this data in this comprehensive weight and weight reduction thread: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1077612

Feel free to update me with any new exhaust weights.

Thanks for this, great thread you got over there. I think it would be nice to have a dedicated exhaust thread but we can merge if you feel appropriate. Lets try to get weights on some of these

Remus
AWE
Eisenmann
etc.

I believe all those are SS and will be heavier than stock?
