JB4 need help...please help..

whats up guys.. so I got my jb4 and downpipes installed on Saturday... sounds insane..fast as hell. my question is I have heard about JB4 just resetting and deactivating... aside from the obvious which is the loss of power if it deactivates.. is there any way we would know if it does deactivate?? also is there anyway other then plugging your car into a laptop to know what current map you are running on?

The JB4_S55 map switch directions and latest firmware/settings are posted on BMS's forums but here is the latests firmware summaries and map switching video..

JB4_S55 Map Guide as of v3.6 Firmware:

Map 0: Disable JB4 / Full Pass Through Mode
Map 1: Stage1 map adding approximately 40whp and 40wtq across the power band on pump gas. Suitable for all stages and fuel mixtures.
Map 2: Slightly more aggressive version of map 1 intended for vehicles with exhaust modifications and 93+ octane fuel. Can also be used with E85 and racing fuel mixtures. Requires Stage2.
Map 3: Slightly less aggressive version of map 1 intended for vehicles running on lower grade fuels such as 91 octane. Requires Stage2.
Map 4: OEM performance but with JB4 active for datalogging only.
Map 5: //M low torque (evaluation) map.
Map 6: Custom tuning map.
Map 7: Race gas map. Requires 100 octane unleaded fuel and for the fuel mass connector to be installed. Can be used with or without the EWG connectors but will make more power with the EWG connectors installed. This map can also be used with up to 35% E85 but in some vehicles & conditions this may cause a high fuel pressure drop and resulting stuttering. If this occurs drop down to map 2.
Map 8: Methanol Injection map. Requires BMS FSB controller or methanol kit for progressive mapping and safety systems. For pump gas a meth additive of 30 is suggested while for race gas/E85 + meth up to a 75 additive can be used. The higher the meth additive the more aggressive the boost curve. A meth additive of 60 would be roughly equivalent to map 7.

Note: For race use only to enable the automatic clearing of passive codes (real codes will continue to show a light in dash) set FutureUseD = 90.


Firmware v3.13

1) Revised map switch indicator per latest video below.

Firmware v3.12

1) Increased data sampling rate.
2) Adjusted AFR to show a blended bank1/bank2 value. I will separate them again down the road as we have more logging changes in the works.
3) Added user adjustable "3rd gear" boost limiter. Requires new interface. Note that 1st gear reduces boost by that amount below 30mph, 2nd gear reduces boost by that amount below 50mph, an 3rd gear reduces boost by that amount below 85mph. If dyno testing you should set these values to 0 otherwise they will lower boost for parts of your dyno runs. We will be implementing a gear logging system (computed using road speed and RPM) in a future release.

Firmware v3.11

1) Changed map switch indicator per new video. This new method works the same with both automatic and manual vehicles.
2) Added additional maps for use with PURE S2 turbos. If installing these turbos email us for directions on how to enable the maps.

Mike thanks for the input.. but this does not answer my questions.. I need to know how I confirm my jb4 is active and did not reset I hear they reset a lot of times... also I want to know how I know which map I am currently running

From my understanding, jb4 is always active unless it is removed or switched to map 0. I do not believe it de-activates on its on never heard that before.

Sounds like you got some bad info. It won't reset itself. It will only change maps if you change them via the volume control. If you don't know what map you're on then set it via the volume control.

they definatly do de activate.. I have a whole crew of m4s that had the problem... this is why I bring up these questions...

if you have the cable you can download the software, connect to your car and it will show you what map you are on. it's the data logging cable

on a side note, mine has never deactivated. first time hearing this as well

I'm guessing he's talking about the safety default mode?

On the JB4 when it goes lean under load, overboosts, or has excessive knock it defaults to MAP 4 which feels like the JB4 is turning off. Protecting your motor.

Yes until there is in dash display like on the N54 cars you'd have to connect the laptop to see it. If you think it happened you have to turn the car off and turn back on to clear it. Though you should log it to find out what happened and fix it before you damage something.

Hate to beat a dead horse... Ok maybe not. You should ask BMS about this on their forum, or search for it over there. Tons of good information on this system.

There is a phone app for the Android and I believe the IPhone, I used the Android one on my N55 on the last car and it is a lot easier to plug in and check whenever your driveing then a laptop, also can change maps, datalog etc. just an idea.

thanks for all the replies guys... so the car was set to map 0 for some odd reason... Thanks to a few guys from the board we got it back up on map 2 late last night... SMOKE EM IF U GOT EM!! and smithf32

Sometimes while driving I press and hold the volume down button on the steering wheel to rapidly turn down the volume on the stereo. Obviously I don't then press the volume up button directly after turning the volume down which then defaults the JB4 to Map 0....I think this is a flaw with the way the map switching works...would have been better to use one of the other buttons to activate map switching...often I feel I'm down on power only to realize I've accidentally reverted to Map 0 because I turned the volume down.

Get used to changing the volume on the radio not on the steering wheel. That's the #1 reason they go to Map 0. Happens very often. Unfortunately there's no way to disable the steering wheel controls AND cat delete as they use the same option on the software.
