We're running the ESS Flash tune on our shop M4 the moment, all I can say that it's a really exciting time at the moment for the S55.

We're able to get the DME out in about an hour, it's a bit tricky at first but easier once you are a bit more familiar with the removal process. More info to follow as soon as we get caught up and hit the dyno.

Will you be testing different fuels as well? Or just 91 since you're in SoCal?

As Tom said we are working to have programming stations available to dealers so they can do the work at their locations without sending the ECU's out to us.

Pretty much everything, 91, 93 and race fuel. The goal is to for everyone to see in action at our dyno event on 4/11.

will keep an eye out, always good to have another option - and the results could be very promising!

What is difference between this and piggy given dyno doesn't look any better than the piggy option? I get for things like top speed or cel on catless setups but I'm not seeing a nicer looking power curve

I still chose to go with the ESS piggy back. Roman actually suggested it for me. Im not looking to make world breaking power just wanted a stage 1 feel. I can put these piggybacks on or off in 20 minutes. He said that it would be pretty close to their stage 1 ecu tune on 93 octane.

I do look forward to your results. Im sure with the turbos you will be beastly.

I've been hearing that once the ECU is cracked you can make changes via OBD2 port.

I feel the same, however I do want cold start deleted and that's a reason [very small reason] I'd go ECU tune. If piggyback could delete cold start I'd get one in a second.

A flash simply gives you full control over the DME rather than manipulated data to trick the DME to reach targeted power. Some areas like fueling, piggypbacks simply do not have access to.

With full control of the ECU, we will really begin to see the full potential of what the S55 is capable of.

I understand ecu gives control but what does that translate into unless you upgrade turbo or want e85 or race fuel tune?

Full control over fuel delivery can reduce lag. This can provide a more responsive throttle during transitions and potentially more power. Total control can also keep the car from throwing random codes or going into limp mode when higher levels of boost are applied. All of this along with CEL suppression with downpipes, RPM limit increase and all the things you just mentioned makes it appealing on several levels to some customers over a piggyback.

The right piggyback can work really well on a street car running moderate boost and for warranty concerned customers is a no brainer. Until OBD end user tuning is available piggybacks will always have a place in the market but they will never match the quality of a proper ECU reflash.

LOTS of difference -- The piggyback basically tricks the DME to run higher boost by sending "false" signals. A flash tune actually changes the various tune tables -- Boost, Fuel, Ignition, Cam Timing, etc. ALSO, and this is really big for the DCT users, is the TQ Tables. Because the piggy's don't transmit TQ Values to the DME, which can cause premature trans slip. Meanwhile, a flash tune will transmit the proper TQ Values and prevent that issue (until you clearly go beyond the clutch TQ capacity).
