F80 M3 + M-Performance Exhaust + Akrapovic Downpipes Install + Video!
Hey guys,
We had a local forum member come in last Friday to have Akrapovic downpipes installed on his M3. He already had the M-Performance exhaust but was looking for that extra sound and power. The results were great! Start up + rev video coming soon. Stock Downpipe removed Stock Downpipe VS. Akrapovic Downpipe Last edited by AutoTalent; 03-24-2015 at 12:15 PM.. |

I'll post up some more videos soon. Cold start with valves closed sounds stock just louder. BUT, with the valves open during cold start, it's pretty damn loud. I had the exhaust valve mod prior to installing the downpipes, but went back to default because cold start is too loud now. I have the CG Precision VSC 2 on its way here, so I can close valves during cold start and open them up again when it's warm. If you're looking for LOUD, this combo will suit you nicely. It sounds very similar to the videos of the M4 Safety Car with MPE.

I have been waiting to hear this. Already have akra dp's and have been really leaning towards mpe. Sounds good, and this will probably be the route I go.

I have exactly the same set up , i just installed akra downpipes along with my mpe exhaust, i also installed the awron gauge with valve control
I had also a stage 1 tune The car has now 520hp 710nm torque , and the sound is mean ... The car pops much earlier now, before i needed to get to 4-5k rpm and now it pops at only 3k rpm A real beast , furthermore with valves closed it is stealth as fvck ps : the video really doesn't do justice to the car's sound IRL imo |

I haven't noticed any while sitting in the car with the windows rolled down yet. I still have the secondary cats in place. You can definitely smell it if you are behind the car, but it's not nearly as bad as if you were to have no cats on the car at all.

Do you have to get the Akrapovic Delete R to use this setup? Can you post what are the exact parts you purchased? Also I read somewhere you need to replace gaskets when installing downpipes, is this correct?

No, I do not. I haven't gotten a CEL yet and it has been over 100 miles. If I do, I will probably just purchase a JB4 to eliminate the CEL while also have the ability to have more power if need be . To me, the Akrapovic Delete-R is overpriced and not worth it for what it does. I'm not sure if the installer (Auto Talent) replaced the gasket. I just dropped my car off with them and let them do their thing. I currently only have the MPE and akrapovic downpipes as my "performance" mods.

I doubt you will pass any smog emission tests when you take out the primary cats. Yeah, I'm not sure why I haven't gotten the check engine light yet but I am glad I haven't gotten it yet!
