Start up roar!

Why is it the M3/M4 has no start up roar.

My N54 335i used to turn heads on WARM starts. The M4 turns on like a prius. Is there anyway to get a nice WARM start roar?

When compared to other cars ie. RS4, C63 335i etc the M4 really is a let down start up wise.

Any answers for this?

Has he heard cold start? It's loud as hell and wakes up entire neighborhoods.

Although I loved the sound of my 335... the M4 sound is nicer and louder. It's just hard to tell when you are in the car. In a warm start make sure your car is in sport mode.... or try that exhaust valve mod that people are doing.. I'm thinking about trying that out myself. I'm just curious what effect unplugging the valves will have on the turbos in a cold start.

Very true... I have the same problem in the cold start as I did with my Ducati.. and that was setting off all my neighbors' car alarms in the garage lol.

He's asking for WARM starts, not cold starts.

OP, i believe this is your solution:

DP > Meisterschaft LX-90mm Pipes > Meisterschaft GT2 W/ SGT X-Pipe

That is a cold start. Stock exhausts sound the same on cold start. Im talking about a warm start roar.

Sorry guys. I did write this the first time. But i am interested in why it has the WARM start of a prius and doesn't roar on WARM starts like a 335i, C63 etc etc. Every car has a horribly loud cold start and considering these cars sound like tractors on a cold start its certainly not in my interest to make that louder. Lol

I absolutely agree with this. I came from AMG and when you started the car, it made people turn and look. I honestly think BMW dropped the ball in the exhaust sound department. Our cold start is okay but once it mellows out, at idle, it sounds no different than your average 3-Series. Even AMG with their forced induction V8 in the new C63 and GT sound amazingly throaty, toned and deep. Hell, even Jaguar got in to the act...

I think if you skip around the video you'll see a few warm starts. This exhaust definitely roars lol

Agree.

Akrapovic Evolution with catless downpipes and M Performance have to be 2 of the best systems (construction, sound and appearance) on the market today.

I think it may end up being something that has to be tuned in. As even with the valve mod done it starts when warm subtly in the start/stop style.

I think if you really want to hear the S55 ROAR you have to play Katy Perry. Only then will the engine truly compete with AMG sound.

awesome Jimmy. since you drove around without DPs for a little, how much louder would you say the DPs are when driving around normal speed. is there more noticeable drone? just wondering if itll be twice as loud as just aftermarket because i dont want to wife to catch on that something is different about my car...so if i kept it tame under 3k rpm, is it noticeable?

the beauty of the valve mod. When the valves are closed there is no drone at all and you actually can barely hear the exhaust inside the car ( AS coded off FYI) so when my better half is in the car I leave them closed. Valves open its loud inside the car and def loud outside the car but the sound and the downshift

yes def drove in lower RPM range but nothing to crazy where it will give you a headache
