What Piggyback or tune to get for a m4 bmw?

Hello,

I am new to the forum i just got an m4 and I want to add power to the car. I am wondering what would be the best thing to do and keeping costs under $1000. I was thinking to get a piggy back or is it better to wait for a tune. I was debating between the jb4, active, and vivd piggy backs. I saw on the forum that the vivid adds 80hp and the jbl adds 40. Is that accurate? My friend says he can get a good deal on a jb4 but if it does add much power compared to the other piggybacks i would rather get the better one. Which would you guys recommend and why? Please let me know and thank you for all your help!

Welcome to the forum. Here's a thread that compares most of the piggybacks on the market which will better help familiarize yourself:

Hope this helps!

Best because they tell you what you want to here (big numbers)?

If you do the research you will see (Vivid at least) just use a generic box and tune.

Even to the point where they actually had issues running it on their "sponsored" M4 in the sponsored section.

Buyer beware once you do your research you will note Vivid also charge a premium for.......... nothing. Save the extra $800+ and go with another tune.

is a great forum tool.

I couldn't do the Vivid...

That dyno didn't really look right, and when it was questioned, it never really got answered.

The JB4 owns all the S55 power and performance records. It can make as much or as little horsepower as you'd like. Up to 560whp on OEM turbos and 630whp on larger turbos. So far. Maybe you are thinking of the BMS Stage1 which adds around 4psi and around 40whp & 50wtq on pump gas?

If I were to buy one I would go JB4. The STG 1 BMS is nice but does not have near the features or the ability to read codes. Valve control, downpipe ability, code reading, etc really set it apart in features. Also has the ability to make the most power if thats what you want.

My second choice would be ESS but my feelings are you would need a valve control box too which is an extra $300-$500 depending in brand. They are a well respected brand and their tunes are known to be good.

I plan on going JB4.

I think 500WHP is more than enough.

For now...

Dont go with advertised gains but rather customer reviews and proven tunes.
If you are just trying to a add more power to your car fast and easy grab the JB stage 1. unbeatable price !!
If you are planning on getting catless DP, i would get the JB4.

I wouldn't go off "biggest numbers" that doesn't provide general feedback at all. The tune could ride like crap.

A lot of our customers are going JB4. The power, features, and ease of use are great. We recommend the JB4 or the ESS tune, both excellent products.

Shoot me a PM for more info!

So if got the jb stage 1 tune my valves will always be open which means if I am on efficiency or sport plus mode the car would sound the same? But if I got the jb4 tune the exhaust sound can still be changed with efficiency and sport plus button?
I probably won't get downpipes for a while later. If i decide to would i be allowed to upgrade my tune to the jb4

I'm currently researching ESS and might go in that direction. I wasn't aware you need to spend an etxra $300 to $500 -- does the ESS part give the claimed power without the valve control box or is it absolutely needed?

Valve control has nothing to do with power of tune.

The JB Stage1 does not have any valve control. Valves will operate based on OEM programming.

If you want stage1 and valve control then you would need to get the Can Flap module.

Valve control is only if you care about exhaust noise. Which I do.

Do the piggybacks help with turbo lag? Is there anyway to decrease turbo lag?
