They are pretty much all the same. I've ran K&N drop in filters on all my previous BMW and never had issues.

Advance Auto Parts has the K&N drop in filters on sale right now for $56. Here ya go:

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/k...488/10659000-P

The BMC filters are a much better build quality (less wicking, poly banding), but the K&Ns are cheap and do the job.

Its purely up to the end user, we run the BMCs on our shop M4. We have a DIY guide here for an overview of the install process:

Let me know if you have any questions on either one.

Thanks for the tip on the discount! I picked up a set of filters for both of our F80s. The shipping and tax was kind of a buzzkill but still came in at $65.71 per set shipped considering we got two of them. Not bad I think.

Ah, you are right! I checked the receipt and we also got the free shipping. We topped out the discount (max of $50) but the free shipping made up for that.

Just as a note. Contrary to NA engines, drop-in filters will not provide any additional power on the S55 unless the engine is tuned for a good amount more boost (and even then it is debatable).

On a stock tune (or any mild tune), the ECU will limit boost through the wastegates. So drop-in filters may only help the turbo work a little less but the engine will not produce any more power.

As long as folks understand that they are only getting enhanced sound from the drop-in, it's all good

Heck. I paid a hefty price for my MPE just to enhance the sound of my car ).

Exactly. Even for just the sound, you're better off just removing the charcoal filters and calling it a day, IMO.
