Post this in the engine tuning section or do a search.

Your warranty does not get voided unless one of your car's components has been damaged and the dealership can prove that it was caused by your aftermarket part.

What Mike said. The Magnuson Moss Act requires that the dealership proves that the part caused a malfunction, only then can they void the warranty.

Yeah, but store and don't loose the OEM part, as you will need to re-install before lease return.

Else, BMW will charge you full retail cost of OEM downpipe + swap labor after you return the car.

BwahahahHa.

Hahahahahaha

Hahahahah

Sorry. If you have DP's, and BMW voids the warranty, you going to fight them based on those grounds?

You gotta pay to play.

Good point!

I have all my OE parts close by in case there are any issues and need to bring the car in.

It really comes down to your relationship with SA. My local SA is a big track guy and has installed AMS downpipes at the dealership on customers cars.

Install the downpipes and bring him a bottle of wine

Thats also a good point. Some Dealers are okay with it some are not. If you can't feel out the dealer then err on the side of caution

When your lease is up just swap the downpipes back and you should be all good.

This. Absolutely this. The client/SA/Tech relationship is critical to owning a modded car under warranty. My Downpipes were installed by a BMW tech, in a BMW shop.

Best advice in this thread, a large portion depends on your relationship with your SA. In black and white - BMW can deny coverage for any aftermarket part.

BMW SA's deal with a wide variety of people (and are people too), most will go out of their way to help if treated with respect/kindness up front.

BMW should crack down on modified leased cars, since the renter doesn't technically own the car.

All of these modified leased cars will end up being the CPOs that everyone wants. Kinda funny cycle.

Yes, BMW will usually charge full retail and labor time to put back the OEM down pipe after you give the car back to them. I would keep the oem parts and swap them back before you do the lease return.

Really why. it's your car while your paying for it. I don't see any different to people who buy it.it's not their car either it belongs to whoever it's financing the car most of the time it's BMW financial.
