BMS stage 1 Drive Train Error light after one day installed
I installed the BMS stage one which Mike did send promptly. After only one day installed, I have already thrown a drive train error code. I wanted to get some feedback to see how common it is to through trouble codes from the BMS stage one vs. other modules.
I do appreciate Mike from N54 tuning getting it to me so quickly, but I have concerns about constant error codes which appears to be at least not rare. |

I've heard of one other guy on here who threw a code shortly after installing it. Could just be adaption related. He's going to read the code and go from there. BMS may adjust the Stage1 default power levels down a bit if it appears the codes are related to the settings Stage1 ships with.

I've had my BMS Stage 1 tune for a couple of weeks now. Not one hiccup or light yet. I did baby it out of the gate for adaptation though.

I've never had an issue with BMS tunes. They have always been reliable and I've never had a code / malfunction. I just ordered the JB4 for my M4... (Previously I had the N55 and N63 tunes)... all well worth it.

Adaption is key to the piggy back
I have all bolt ons and meth running 6lbs boost with no issues. Adaptation is key. Stock M5 peak A/Fs are 12.5-12.6. Even on comp package. On a customers car same set up maxed out with meth like my M6 after adaptation still A/Fs 12.5-12.6 peak. No issues as well. If you beat on it in the beginning you will get malfunction light, the car thinks it's running stock boost so it will run lean in the beginning till it realizes it needs to add more fuel. Third gear pulls only in the beginning, not going through the gears. then do some 4th gear pulls till fully adapted. A long gear pull to redline gives the MAFs time to read and adapt. Easing into open throttle helps the MAFs read better with no instant throttle surprises. Best way is to run a couple third gear pulls park and lock. Wait 30 minutes or so and do it again. The more ignition turns, meaning running and locking her up the quicker it will adapt. Good luck G Last edited by m6beast; 02-21-2015 at 01:30 PM.. |

I would agree with the above post. I didn't just install the device and then go out and haul ass, I gently eased into the boost on my runs until a few days later I went full throttle.

And the code was....
The tech said that it was a code often seen after a car is modified. The error code indicated that the DME was not properly coded to the car. As a result all modules had to be re-flashed which took three hours. I don't know enough to determine whether this is an adaptation code, but I do know that the only was for this code to be rectified is to re-flash. You couldn't even erase the code with Rheingold without it instantaneously reappearing.
