3 types of dp's

Cat less, catted and resonated. I know the differences but Just wanted to get some feedback on the resonated from those who have experience. Is there much drone with catless? Do resonated downpipes eliminate drone and maybe affect tone??
Any help would be great. I'm looking to purchase a good quality set.

I have catless DPS and aftermarket exhaust. With valves closed I don't have any drone. Valves open I have slight drone in the lower RPMs

I am not sure my friend. I am not a expert on this topic nor have I ever mess'd with DPs in the past. This is my first go around with replacing stock DPs. I would think some of the experts on here will chime in and have better answer but once again like I always say sound is so subjective. What sounds like drone to you could not sound like drone to the next user, so its hard to tell you exactly if that makes sense. Either way just know if you can get some sort of valve control unit you will be fine if you go with any DP change bc valves closed is very subtle. Its perfect for those time when you don't want a loud exhaust note filling up the cabin or exterior

Don't buy resonated DP. It's waste of money.
I had AR resonated DP in previous N54 BMW. They can only put tiny resonators on DP, so it doesn't really do anything to change tone or reduce drone.

Perfect thanks parky. Actually have a question specifically for you, what do you think about dps with the combo you have? (Magnaflow race mufflers)

If you are looking to changing stock D, i recommend you just go catless.
It is cheaper, gets you more power and makes the car sound a lot better
Never tried resonated myself, but i have not heard good things about it

My experience with resonated cats is that it doesnt seem to be worth the money. They may sound a bit louder than stock but not really worth the time and money to get it installed for minimal power and sound increase.

Catless is the best option. You get the most gains and it sounds pretty good! Stock plus downpipes is really one of the best options.

The only issue some people have is the added smell.

Well said..

Only thing I would add is if changing out exhaust portion then resonated pipes are something to look into as they will help eliminate any drone that is inherent when changing out the full exhaust (turbo) back. Might not be as bad on these cars as long as the aftermarket exhaust has the flappers, but even then some combinations may drone.

I went with ER. The only reason I went with ER was Tom@EAS has those on his shop M4. I drove his car and loved the sound. His M4 also has tons on tons of track time with no issues at all so I figured it would be a great set up for my boring daily driving habits. Plus they were a pretty good deal!

that's a very interesting subject. Most of the fine print says for Race applications only. Emissions wise each state is different. In California, I believe we do not have to get our cars smog checked after 5 years if its a new car. These are issues that can be easily taken care of but each state is different when it comes to emissions and illegal.

Catless are definitely not emission legal
Even catted DP might not pass emission and will eventually get you a CEl light if you do not have a JB4

Can you post a video please!! How is the sound for you? What kind of DP are you running? I currently am running just the "stock exhaust mod" and have valves open. I LOVE the way it sounds when its cold and at WOT. I've been really curious as to what this would sound like though.
