JB4 and JB Stage 1 Supplemental Install Guide - With detailed pictures and NEW Video

This is a work in progress, so will be editing heavily in the next few days!!

---------

Video added to help..

-----------

Well out shop M3 arrived on Thursday so the first mod to it was naturally the JB4 as I think its the best bang for the buck mod you can do. The install guide is a little vague so I figured I would add a little supplementary info to make it easier for the DIY guys. This is not the simplest car to work on as everything is cramped and difficult to get to. The install itself is super simple but getting to stuff is a little problematic in certain circumstances.

So to start we will review the Stage1 setup, which you can do on the JB4 or standalone JB M3/M4 Stage1 tune.

Tools you will need

1) T25 TORX Screw Driver
2) Small flathead (the smaller the better)

Below is the schematic for the engine bay and the sensor connectors.

The first connector is the TMAP. This is very simple. Just disconnect sensor with small screw driver and plug in JB sensor (last sensor on harness)

The second sensor is the MAP sensor. The difficulty with it is that the intercooler reservoir is in the way. If you have small hands you can get to it but its much simpler to re-locate the reservoir.

To remove the reservoir unscrew it via the two TORX screws, and then it is free to move. In order to completely get it out of the way you should remove the overflow hose on the right. This is very simple as its clamped on with expandable metal clamps. Take some pliers and expand the clamp and move it towards the middle of the hose, and then just wiggle hose off.

Once the hose is off the overflow reservoir can be moved completely out of the way so your hands can get at the sensor. This makes life a lot simpler. Once sensor is attached just plug hose back and move clamp where it was.

This completes stage1 install!

Once the reservoir is out of the way you can disconnect the MAP sensor and plug in the JB equivalent sensor.

Below is the MAP sensor pictured with stock harness unplugged already.

That completes the Stage1.

To go to stage2 you need to plug in the CAN connectors, which is very simple. Locate the CAN wires and use the provided post taps. The wires are adjacent so you stagger the post taps.

Below is the pic on a DCT car. The location of the wires on MT cars is little different but the wires are the same and the install is the same in terms of post taps.

So the Mass Fuel sensor is part of the Stage3 install and is recommended even for Stage2 applications. It is VERY tricky but relatively simple once rotated. The trick is the sensor needs to be rotated about 210 degrees until you see the clip. I have attached a picture below of the sensor rotated with the clip exposed. Once exposed / rotated just slide your small screw driver under the clip and lift and push away from you and sensor will pop out. Replace with JB sensor and rotate back until locks. Its a compression fitting so it will be loose just until it locks.
