MW Owners: Black vs light 19" wheels
Hey guys, searched the forum first and didn't find anything specific to what I was looking for. Here is my question/dilemma:
My F80 MW order is in 112 status, going to Production any day, and I ordered it with 19" black wheels. I am now second guessing myself and wondering if I should switch to the light ones. My question to MW owners in particular is if they regret getting the black wheels. Would you switch to the light colored wheels, now that you have owned the car for weeks/months? How dark are they when they are dirty after day to day use? Thanks in advance! |

This is just a personal choice but going by my past cars and the pictures I have seen for the F8X, black wheels look awesome on a AW or MW car whereas silver wheels look better on darker cars. I am planning on black for my AW. On my E90 I found it easier to keep the black wheels clean because the brake dust never showed on the darker wheel.

I'm in the minority though and love the look of the stock 18s on MW/AW. |

Yes those 18's look good though I would not have paid for them if they were offered as a $1200 option. Think the OP is trying to decide on the color for the 19's though. He is not even looking at the 18's but yes, the 18's in silver are a good indicator of color.

In my opinion wheels have been silver for as long as I can remember.
We are currently among a black wheel fad which looks good (subjective) but is annoying regardless. I love that manufactures are now offering two tone colors of black/gunmetal etc. The black 19" aren't the stereotypical blacked out wheels. They have a great two tone finish to them which makes the silver 19" look like every other boring silver wheel out there. If I was getting MW I wouldn't hesitate to get the black wheels. Like previously stated you can always trade. |

Black looks awesome. Its not plasti-dip black... its two tone. You won't regret it.... and if you do, I don't think you'll have a problem trading them.

Black rims turn a brownish matte color once the brake dust starts to settle. Looks a little better than a silver wheel covered in brake dust, but you'll still need to clean both of them at the same frequency.

Having experience with both, I would definitely stay with black. The Oreo Cookie contrast works well. I ordered my MW F82 with them and I think the combination looks fantastic. My winter wheels now are silver 641's and the combination isn't nearly as nice. The blacks are also easier to keep clean.

I have been staring at pictures on this site for weeks, never once noticed that the wheels were two-tone. I guess pictures don't do the car justice after-all. |

I agree though the two-tone black 19s are the way to go on MW/AW. Last edited by minn19; 12-09-2014 at 11:28 AM.. |

I have the 19's in silver with MW and love them. The silver is dark and looks great. I also have the 18's which I had powder coated black. I love those too. If I were you, I'd get the silver. If you tire of it or don't like the look, have them powder coated gloss black- which looks better than the two-tone black IMO and will cost you $400-$500... I love having the black wheels for my winter setup and silver wheels for summer!

Not even going to bother reading the responses above.
MW with CFR looks killer with the black wheels. "Don't be a fool Plissken"! Keep the BLK rims. As for other colors with the blk rims, it's on a case by case decision IMO, but AW/MW is no contest. One caveat, the dark gray don't hold up as well as the light gray when brake dust builds up, aesthetically speaking. Yeah, sounds like it would be the opposite but actually the dark just look dirty after brake dust build up, the light gray ones just keep looking gray. BMW got this one right. The safe play (as others have stated) is to get the black. Trade for silver if you like later. I have seen a few trades here black for silver is a more easy trade based on what I have seen so far.

Well, covering shipping both ways is pretty gracious and there's that brake dust thing. So the OP could try the blk and if not to his liking, swap them as suggested above, and already having an interested party is win/win. Yeah, I guess I should start reading posts before giving crappy advise. But that might be a hard habit to break. In any event, you will find a swap eventually if shipping costs are a nonissue. Hang in there!

I have debated between the wheels extensively myself. I don't know how many times I have gone back and forth between the two before finalizing my order. I finally settled on the black ones. IMO, the silver wheels look more elegant and classy while the black ones look more sporty and aggressive. Now that I have the black one, every time I see a car with the silver ones, I wonder if I should have gone with the silver. I am pretty sure I would be going through the same thing if I went with the silver ones . Another observation which is purely personal, but I tend to like the M3 better with silver wheels and the M4 with the black ones. |
