Dinan Intake Installed. Honest review | Before/After Comparison

The time finally came to put an Intake on the X1. After much research, i decided the best fit for me was the Dinan Intake. It seemed like an overall good compromise with quality, aesthetics, and some form of marginal gains.
Upon unboxing, the quality did not disappoint! All i can say is, it's simply quite a piece of ART! The instructions included were clear and straight forward. I really wasn't expecting much, except perhaps for a little more induction
noise and perhaps some smiles. As always, with all my changes/mods, i decided to do another before/after comparison.
Comparing Apples to Apples, I did a same day 0-60 run with the Dinan Piggyback Tune, and with the stock airbox in sport+ (coded via bimmercode) and letting everything auto shift, I managed a 0-60 of 7.19s. Very similar to my February time of 7.03s (BUT this was with a temperature of 75 degrees vs 32 degrees!) After the intake was installed, I immediately notice a snappier throttle response, and a slight spool noise increase! With zero adaption pulls, i did another 0-60 pull and got a very similar (but technically slightly worse) time of 7.26s. Just a +0.07 slower…
After the auto shift pull, i decided to try one more pull, but this time with brake boosting, and manually short shifting. (which would have been very similar to last years 7.16s)
Low and behold, i managed to sneak out a 0-60 in 6.96s ! Remind you this was on the same stretch of road, but at at a temperature INCREASE of 43 degrees!
Long story short, it was a VERY easy mod to install and super happy that it checked all the boxes, especially the "smiles" box. If interested, here is a step-by-step "how-to" on installing the intake. ENJOY!

Very cool, I do like your videos. I can definitely hear the flutter on our '16 X1 when going up my parking garage at work. The funny thing is that my '19 X2 M35i is so much quieter (intake/turbo) definitely not exhaust!. I would hope that the Dinan made it just a little better for the fun noises.

Thanks! Haha, nice. Yeah, the stock is very very subtle, but under certain conditions and in the right environment, it can be heard.
I test drove an X2 M35. I really really enjoyed it, especially those little burbles the exhaust makes!

I have a BMS intake and very happy. Canned software available through my local programmer/tuner that can add a lot of HP and TQ for very reasonable as well as convenience options.

I got the CTS Turbo one with an exhaust and in sports+ you really hear it whistle.

Oh and this is a 3 Cyl.

Hey Reefy, quick question. Did you install the aFE cover too? The manual says you need to remove the isolation rubber from the top to install the cover, but that kind of removes the whole purpose of the rubber .

Thanks,
JV.

Yeah man, it doesn't make sense . So what's the idea of that rubber? In what situation do you use/need it?

Anyway, the aFE guys sent me the wrong U-clips, so I can't install the cover. But, I think I found a replacement on Amazon.

Honestly I just put aside in the garage LOL.

I think it may be just something to put on for some people that dont want to cover and to avoid banging something against the metal frame of the airbox?
