2021 BMW X1 Passenger glove box removal
Well, it started with a wonky windshield wiper, and now I'm trying to pull the glove box out to retrieve a trim clip that went flying and to get the glovebox re-seated properly! Argh!
According to mrpingu's post in this thread (for some reason the image isn't viewable when I'm logged in), you can remove the trim piece under the glove box by popping the 5 metal clips and pulling downwards: https://f48.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2031091 But on the one I'm working on for a family member, it looks like the trim piece is stuck to the plastic frame piece in front of that airbag! I've tried to pry pretty hard on the fasteners that go into the round anchor points on the second image (without breaking anything), but it doesn't seem like they want to let go or that it's some slot mechanism where I can just press down. I felt the back of them, and it kinda feels like a rivet instead of an anchor! Is there a trick, or did I totally mess something up, or do I need to be popping even more trim? Thanks for any advice you might have! |

6 screws in total have to come out before you can remove it.

Thanks guys!
Unfortunately, I couldn't do it (and was especially leery of that knee air bag.) I even snapped off both posts that extended from the glovebox into the trim piece below it: no dice. The glovebox was free, but couldn't be pulled out through the opening. On the upside, I found the trim clip I was looking for, and managed to put things together so it looked all right! |
