Should BMW have limited the F32 range?

This is just my personal opinion, and with due respect to my fellow forum members;

I personally feel that BMW should have limited the F32 range to the 428i and 435i. These cars are regarded as Sports Coupes, and I feel the brand should not have included the 420i nor any diesel model. I mean a 420d? Why would anyone want to by a diesel "Sports Coupe"? Besides this, IMHO damages the F32 "Sports" appeal.

I mean, the target market is surely aimed for "sport appeal" and not every day cruising? Surely that's the reason for the F30 "family" vehicle?

I also feel the brand should have included the M performance power kit as standard with the M performance exhaust on these cars.

Glad I don't have to physically run, but anyway ... runs like hell

You're obviously talking about the US diesel models, however, don't forget about the European diesel versions... The 435d definitely lives up to the "sport coupe" ideal

Yeah it's quite a car, but remember it's still a diesel! I mean, some people may be scared or feel it's sort of "taboo" to label a diesel a non-sports vehicle. The fact is, the foundation of a true sports car is based on gas not diesel.

Previous poster mentioned BMW don't care as long as it sells... that's so true.

Also if you want a "performance" car, you really don't give a damn about consumption. The moment my 435i was "ran in" I drove it like a maniac, at one point I got 212km from full tank and the reserve light came on! But that didn't phase me, I simply fuelled up again and took back out, sideways lol.

I'm just saying, if you're concerned about fuel consumption then you're really not into outright performance are you?

While I'll give you that the sound is not the most appealing one, it's as high of the ground as much as any x range... So by that, the 435xi should be crossed off the list?

I remember fine that it's a diesel That's why I bought one...

In any case, I don't want to get into debates if the 435d is a "true sports car" or not. That's extremely subjective - In my (biased) opinion the 435xd more than deserves its place in the line up.

Well, if you have a dedicated sports car and a DD, then I agree...
If you don't, then the choice is not that black and white.
0-100kph in 4.7 sec is not a slouch and a fuel consumption in city of almost half compared to the I is not to be disregarded either...

To add, the fuel consumption for me was an added bonus, and not the deciding factor. I mainly chose it for the awesome torque.

IMO limit the M-Sport to the 335/435(i or d). That's my only objection.

I hear what you say, and I've owned the X5 3.0D with the 8 speed tran, I can tell you the car goes like hell! But, a very big but, when I park it off next to my buddys X5, 3.5i six pot, damn it felt like I was driving a truck! The sheer exhaust tone set it miles apart as a true "performer" and as fuel consumption was not an issue, I actually regretted not going for the six pot gas model. Anyway I've learnt from that, clearly

Not for everyday cruising??? I drive mine for work everyday. Picked it up in March and already have 6,500 miles on it. It drives better than the F32, I don't need a back seat, and I like to larger doors for getting out of. It's meant to drive everyday.

There's no diesel F32 (not yet anyway) or a 420i sold in the US so just pretend you live here.

By that logic they should also eliminate the 428i, no? The N20 still sounds like a diesel in that car. Maybe a bit less than in the F30 but still.

Look, I love my car and it's plenty fast (especially with a BMS Tune). However, make no mistake about it, a 335/435 is not a high performance sports car targeting those who are interested in "outright performance". An M3/M4, yes. I think the OP is missing the fact that many people like the lines of the 4-series, yet aren't interested in hauling ass 24/7. It's a ~330 hp car. Nowhere close to being a "true" high performance machine.

I don't think so. More choice = more power to buyers.

This. BMW should only make M3/M4 for the OP.

^^

BMW wants to make revenue and get more marketshare. Audi sells a 2.0T a5.

probably the #1 selling model vs the 3.0T and the S5.

I'm concerned about it in the context of range per tankful.

And does the OP really think there's a substantial difference between a 335 & 435? Enough to label one a "sports" car and the other a "family" car?
