It has been years since I have seen this, usually diesel is at least 5 cents higher and sometimes 25 cents higher...

In the northeast, summer months, diesel is 10-20 cents cheaper than premium. In the winter, It's about the same or 10 cents more than premium.

I'm paying $4.25 out here . It's the same as premium right now.

Either way, if you calculate it to an equal liter premium gas version, with average driving (12k/yr) you still save $700/year in gas.

Chevron diesel running about $3.49/gal on south side of Houston and about 4 cents above regular unleaded. Highest price I paid this last winter was only 3.59/gal.

You guys are lucky in the states. We have about C$1.50 per liter. About 30-50% higher than in the States. Cheapest I could find in the WA state is 3.79/ga, usually about 3.99 to 4.09/ga.

As a resident of PA...it sucks! PA has the highest per gallon fuel tax in the nation and they just went up even more as of 1/1/2014 thanks to our lackluster governor.

Diesel is taxed at $0.51 per gallon.
Gas is taxed at $0.41 per gallon.

Diesel is currently trending at ~4.05 per gallon and Premium gas is ~3.85.

HA! I would love to have your diesel price - I'm paying $4.31 per gal. I have seen it as low as $4.19 at other places, but I go to a Sunoco for consistency and quality. They also move a lot of diesel, which is a good sign. I have watched a station lower their price to $4.05 just to move old diesel and raise the price after the tanker leaves.

Ugh...I hate CA. Cheapest you can find is $3.99. At least it's better than paying $4.59 for premium gas!

At the station I typically go to, Diesel (at $3.89) is 30 cents cheaper than regular, and 74 cents cheaper than premium.

In Toronto area it is 1.30 per L. Premium is around 1.45+/- per L

Winter it is the other way around.

I also believe the fuel is CA and the CARB states is higher octane per state mandate hence the higher cost. I'll have to look up the the TDIClub thread where someone posted up all this info. Hope I am not getting some facts wrong.

Edit. I did mean cetane not octane

I'm surprised diesel is cheaper than premium by most, it is never cheaper in AZ, diesel is always more, I hope this trend stays...

In Boston Metro West, diesel's at roughly 3.91 currently - and .06 cheaper
than premium.

It was up to 4.25 during the winter.

Funny - I remember as a kid when regular gas was .38/gallon, diesel was
.26/gal. For decades diesel was significantly cheaper than regular gas.

It's cheaper than regular in Canada (or at least the Toronto area) by about 10 cents/litre. Makes me wish I was still driving the d on a regular basis.

These threads always crack me up... You obviously drive BMW's. Yet people complain about fuel when it's $.10 etc.... More or whatever. Even if you fill up that $.10 difference is only $1.50 or so... Really that little bit of money is worth starting a thread and complaining about it??

It is absolutely unbelievable. Car depreciates 5-8k a year and folks counting dimes...
Buy a Cobalt instead.

In case you guys want to feel better:
I pay the cheapest fuel in Europe in Luxembourg. Today it costs me EUR 1.274/liter. Converting to US this is USD 6.665/gallon!!
Cetane is 55 for premium diesel. Car runs like a dream.
