Top Speed limiter

Is this a coding option on M235i? I know the car order with Summer Tire has Top Speed Limiter removed. Not sure if this can be coded

130mph vs 150mph

First off, the top speed limiter isn't removed with summer tires, it's just increased.

As for the coding, it probably can be done... but some people don't realize the reason the top limit is placed is because the tires the vehicle is sold with don't support speeds higher than the limit, that's why it's put there. Given that, if you know your current tires can support it, give it a shot. The names aren't all that cryptic, so if it exists, it probably wouldn't be hard to find.

You should be able to change your VO

Remove S118A "TOP SPEED REDUCTION"
Add S840A "HIGH SPEED SYNCHRONIZATION"

and VO code FEM_BODY i guess

just make sure you test in a "safe" environment

I have no direct personal experience, but it seems (based on postings in other forums) that the top speed limit can only be changed when the car is new for a short period of time. It would be good to know if that information is wrong, so I invite anyone with personal experience to contradict me.

People usually confuse Remove speed limiter with Increased speed limiter

If you don't have the right tires you get S118A (top speed reduction) 130mph
If you have summer tires you get S80A (increased top limiter) 150mph

and as far as i know you can always remove that from the VO at anytime

Now removing the speed limiter (no speed limit at all) cannot be coded cause it's actually hardcoded in the ESC.... for that you need a tune or a flash to override it

Can this actually be done?
Does it work?

Supposedly yes... but you need to do it before the 10 operating hours of the car...

Then it gets locked and you can only doing by flashing the DME ECU

Also the ecu that needs to be coded is the DME and not FEM_BODY and because you can't code the DME with the engine running, you might need to connect a charger to prevent screwing the data file if voltage drops

You can also try to change the VMAX directly instead of VO coding but again before the first 10 operating hours of the car

Anyone know what top speed would be? The gpower tune claims it would bump the limiter to 186. Could an FBO m235i even hit that if not limited?

I wonder what the tranny winds out at?

How accurate is the top speed limiter? Is it possible to be off from factory? I have personally seen a completely stock M235i slightly over the 160mph line.

limiter is at 155 and they always read high like 3-5mph... so it's not crazy that you could see the speedo close to 160...

to know real speed you should use gps

It was a good amount over 160 line ( probably around 163 or 164mph) is it possible to be 8 or 9 mph over? The gps speed use was only about 1-2mph less. It definitely took me by surprise.

Before I got my car tuned, my GPS top speed was 162 mph. After I got my flash tune with Enzo, I have gotten it to 173 on the drive back from the Nürburgring.

Cobb AP in the n54 335 set speed limiter to 198, never got near that...

It's very easy to reach the 130 mph... as others pointed out, you have 10 hours to change it before its locked out. But the 10 hours may already be up by the time it reaches you, driving it onto the ship, off the ship to trailer, dealership etc...

Good luck, you can always flash the DME like pointed out with a ENZO or other tune if you really want to increase...

Enzo claims 316 hp - 343 ft/lbs at the crank. Havnt been able to find a dyno shop that speaks good english around where I'm located in Germany. I have spoke to Enzo and when I move to Virginia in May, I will take a trip up to their shop to adjust the tune and get a official number.

As for the RPM, I am not sure, I was too focused on not crashing. My brother was actually calling the speed out for me. I know it had a little more before redline, I just ran out of empty road and was coming up on some cars so I let off.
