6/20 HPDE @ NJMP Lightning
Planning on my first track day with my F30 on June 20 (Friday) at New Jersey Motorsports Park's Lightning track. Anyone else attending this event hosted by Hooked On Driving?

Figured I'd bump this once since there is still room in the B and C run groups... And apparently GM is providing a 2014 Corvette Z51 for attendees to drive on track. A raffle determines who can get behind the wheel for a session.

Wrapping this thread with my favorite pic from the event. Had a great time learning (a lot) more about my 335. Can’t wait to do it again!

Car looks great - how did it run? I don't see an instructor in with you - were you running solo the whole time?

Solo all day... Except when I drove the Z51 Corvette... I had a coach showing me what I was doing wrong. Lol
My car held up pretty good. I ran 5 sessions of about 20-25 minutes or 16/17 laps each. Each session I drove a little harder until I could explore each dynamic... Cornering limits and throttle balance, acceleration limits and slip angles, and in last session... braking limits. After 5-6 laps of deep braking I boiled the fluid and found the thermal limit of the ($650) M Sport brake option. I now need to bleed the brakes, but that was the point of the exercise... To find the limit. I'll use the opportunity of opening the hydraulics to put in the Challenge SS brake hoses and some proper race fluid. I want the LSD rear end. I like a softer rear tire pressure than the recommended 100+MPH pressures ( 39f/41r), but I'm probably going to start another thread about tire pressure to expand that point. Upon reflection, I am extremely satisfied with the overall performance of my car. It's a super 7 or 8/10 track car that is comfy to/from the facility. I was definitely holding my own with the non-race mustangs and BMWs out there.

Awesome - well done!
Re: the brakes, were you using race pads? If not, I think you'll find the M Sport brakes are more than up to the task with proper fluid and pads.

I ordered a set of their Reybestos ST-43 compound pads to try next (with the counter weights on the rears), so those will be on the car for my next track session. The ST-43 are supposed to be great, so that is probably what I'd recommend...otherwise, the R-4.

I screwed up by locking the exposure, but this is a couple of clear laps from my last session on the track…

Nice videos. Looking forward to getting back out on Lightning - such a relaxing, flowing track...

Wife ran the F32 during a member day on lightning. Car ate up the tires but the oil, water and brakes were all fine. If it's your first track day you just need to bring your car with adequate brake pad/tire and just drive it. Maybe have the brake fluid replaced if its a year old. Otherwise torque the wheels, make sure fluids are topped off and you have a full tank of gas. Go enjoy yourself.
Here is a pic I took of my wife on lightning a couple weeks ago. BMW 435xi by -mik3ymomo- |
