Busted UREA tank...

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to vent a little and try to get a feel for how much damage this will do to my wallet.

So while backing up the other day, I crushed the UREA tank underneath the car (I think that's what it is. It's the part right after the mufflers if you're looking from the rear of the car). I was too busy looking at the car behind me and didn't notice the curb/divider in the parking lot. What a knucklehead!

Anyway, I initially thought it was just a scrap on the rear bumper, but when I got back from my road trip from SF to LA, I noticed that there was a bunch of little crystallized sand-like particle stuck to my rear bumper. I traced it and realized it was coming from underneath. I looked underneath and I can see that I had bent the shield that covers the tank, which probably punctured it and caused UREA to spray all over. SES light also came on probably because I'm now running low.

On a side note, my average MPG for the trip was about 33 MPG with around 850 miles of driving. 4 adults in the car on the way up (est. 650 lbs), and 3 adults on the way back. Cruising at around 80 MPH most of the way and the car never felt sluggish passing cars or on on-ramps.

Going to bring the car in this Saturday to get it checked out, so we'll see how it goes! Hopefully it's as easy as taking it off and replacing it with a new tank and shield, but I highly doubt it.

Damn that sucks. It ain't gonna be cheap to replace that's for sure. Hope the stealership eases your pain by helping you out on a repair.

Blue Water Metallic! My buddy had one before trading it in for a SGM 335i M-Sport recently and he swore himself and three others were the only ones with that color in SoCal.

What you could also do is file a car insurance claim
Because clearly someone backed into you and damaged your car.

Recently had my tank changed at the dealer under CPO warranty due to a 'Reductant Level Sensor Circuit Low' malfunction (p203c). The cashier happily stamped how much "money I saved" b/c of the warranty. It was around $1350 I believe.

why not take it to a local indy? I know several shops in LA that would definitely do it cheaper and probably a better job as well.

If you don't want to redneck it, figure out what material it is (plastic I think) and have a place that works with that material repair it. No reason that should require a whole new tank.

if you're anywhere near North Hollywood, set up an appt with Gary at MiniCorsa. Great shop and they know their stuff, prompt and reasonable pricing.

+1. A while back I had to remove my beat-up CF front splitters to replace them with new ones but surprise surprise, the replacements that I bought on eBay had a worse fitment than the previous ones. Gary didn't charge me a penny for the removal and his staff were nice guys. Highly recommended shop!
